State dumps new batch of Clinton emails late Friday

The State Department late Friday evening released a new batch of emails from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The agency posted the cache online just three days before Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses.

Administration officials had promised to release roughly 2,000 pages of Clinton’s emails on Friday, but said they would not meet a court deadline for releasing the final 7,000 pages.

That means the final batch of emails won’t be released until after voters go to the polls in the first several primary states, where Clinton is facing off against Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

State insisted late Thursday that it “regrets” not publishing the entire cache as ordered by a federal court last year. It defended the holdup as the result of an internal oversight exacerbated by last weekend’s massive blizzard.
