Global stocks rallied because China posted the WEAKEST annual growth in 25 years.

Umm...OK...?

"What is that you are saying"?

Fronting that statement as logic, the market should rally if the cities of New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles all declare bankruptcy on the same day.

Yup...she's goin' up!

"Brent light crude just hit 17 dollars."

Yup...see that; she's goin' up again!

Phew - slid that one under the door!

No sanity clause - and the report comes from the WSJ, mind you.

Yup; THAT Wall-Street-Journal - the second 'Paper of Record'.

Ever get the feeling the market is all controlled by A.I. quantum computer algorithms, and the only human interaction is in reporting what the algorithms do, or are capable of doing?

Looks like the wild eyed crazies down there on the trading floor might have to find something else to do...

Wondering what all the futures pre-market hoopla is about? …And…here’s the “explanation”

Here’s the WSJ posting an article at 4:38 a.m. to make sense of it all:

"Global stocks rallied Tuesday even though China recorded the weakest annual pace of growth in a quarter century, as gains in crude oil and base metals prices lifted downtrodden energy and mining shares".

China’s 6.9% annual growth rate seemed to offer relief to investors, some of whom had feared worse.

Heh heh.

Clearly the WSJ meant “computer algorithms” when it said ‘investors’ because there are no investors anymore, just blinking lights on racks of servers operating between midnight and 2:00 a.m.

Second, I love the implicit trust shown towards the Chinese ‘data’ which nobody I know has even the slightest trust in…

It’s possibly not even directionally correct is my thinking.

But the WSJ loves its explanations for why this or that happened in the markets and today’s explanation is that you and I are are cheered by China’s data release.
