Missouri is one of few states that have stood up to the FED when it comes to REAL ID. But as the January 10th deadline is drawing near, lines are being drawn.
Missouri Gov. Nixon wants license law changed

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Gov. Jay Nixon says state law needs to change so that Missouri drivers’ licenses can come in line with federal requirements.

The federal government has said drivers’ licenses from Missouri and several other states will be unacceptable for entry to federal buildings and military bases beginning Sunday.

The 2005 federal Real ID Act set minimum standards for licenses in response to security concerns following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Enforcement of those requirements had been delayed.

Nixon signed a law in 2009 barring Missouri from complying with the federal law. After the governor’s prayer breakfast Thursday, Nixon said that law needs to be changed.

The problem was, in 2009. this was before Governor Nixon took in all the Federal Stimulus monies. Now that he has a debt to the feral government he is willing to throw Missouri citizens under the bus.

In the meantime Missourian’s are standing tall for what they believe is right.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– A number of conservative political groups are planning to protest at two area airports after the Department of Homeland security deemed Missouri drivers licenses no longer acceptable at federal buildings beginning January 11.

Protests are planned at Springfield-Branson National Airport and Kansas City International Airport on Saturday, January 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to one of the organizers, Mike Slack of the Commonsense Property Rights Coalition, “The purpose of the event is to educate the public on the federal government’s Real ID Act, how it is in violation of Missouri State Statute, an infringement on privacy and a violation of the right to travel freely” Slack said. “The date and location were chosen because the Department of Homeland Security claims to have the power to cease accepting a Missouri Driver’s License as valid identification as of January 10, forcing Missourians to bring a passport or other ID acceptable to DHS. The situation is the same for Illinois and several other states.”

Other groups involved in the protest include: property rights groups, Campaign for Liberty, Tea Party, Missouri Grassroots Coalition, and others.

Slack also says, “Participants include members of all political parties – Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Constitution Party and independents. Our goal is to educate the public, persuade our Congressmen and Senators to take action to either repeal or defund the Real ID Act, and to encourage our state legislators to stand up to the federal government and protect our rights as citizens of Missouri, as they have sworn to do. The demonstration will be peaceful and will comply with all applicable laws. Those interested in attending ore wishing more information may call 417-264-2435.”

It never continues to amaze me of how far our legislators are allowing the federal government to usurp power from the people. Our founders knew that these times would come. I am proud of how the folks in Missouri are dealing with these days.
