Not long ago I have sent an email from the RMN site in response to a flat earth promoting post. I have explained the extremely simple and trivial way of proving once and for all, whether the earth is really flat or spherical.

The only thing that needs to be done is to measure the distance that has to be traveled between two longitudes twice. Once on the Northern hemisphere as close to the north pole as possible, and second time on the southern hemisphere between the same longitudes along the same but southern latitude as in the first measurement.

If the earth would be really flat then the second distance must be much greater than the first. On a spherical Earth they should be about the same, both on the northern and the southern hemisphere.

Some people use the APOSTOL ANDREY 2004-06 Antarctic Circumnavigation diary found at

to prove that the Earth is flat. His calculations are full with errors. The major error in his calculation is, that he thinks that the "Antarctic circumnavigation is 28515 nautical miles in 438 days". this is completely wrong! In the diary it is clearly written, that after arriving at Ross Sea they had a "Breakage, wintering in Vladivostok, return to the Ross Sea (15475 n.mile)". So they abandoned their circumnavigation of the Antarctic, and sailed back north along the blue line on their map to Vladivostok to spend the winter there and returned about 10 months later to the same point at Ross Sea, to continue their trip around the antarctic. Therefore the total distance traveled around the Antarctic and the time that it took is not what people claim it to be.

If we subtract the distance and time traveled along the blue line up north and back, then we get the real distance and time they have sailed around the Antarctic in reality. The trip around the Antarctic was 9970 Nautical Miles long and it took 125 days to complete. This distance is 18464km which very closely the same as the official circumference of the Antarctic which is 17968km, on a spherical Earth.

This APOSTOL ANDREY Antarctic Circumnavigation is actually an excellent and undeniable proof that the Earth is really spherical, and not flat. If it would be flat then this circumnavigation would have taken much much longer along a much longer distance.

So with this the flat Earth theory has been definitely debunked and proven to be wrong.
