Asian stocks slumped, with a rout in mainland equities triggering a halt for the rest of the day, as a worse-than-expected Chinese manufacturing report and escalating Middle East tension saw investors shun riskier assets. Oil gained.
China�s CSI 300 Index fell 7 percent, the level that stops trading under a circuit-breaker mechanism introduced today. The MSCI Asia Pacific Index tumbled 2.2 percent to head for its steepest drop since Sept. 29. Haven assets from gold to Treasuries advanced, with the yen touching the strongest level since October, while New Zealand�s dollar extended losses after a private gauge of China�s factories unexpectedly fell. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 1.7 percent as Saudi Arabia expelled Iran�s diplomats from the country.
