Innuendo, Inc. A Comment on Ebola
By Mary W Maxwell, PhD (Politics), LLB
The Washington Post gets funnier all the time. This is a good sign. It means they have to practice contortionism when dealing with what you might consider to be a perfectly straightforward matter. On September 26, 2014, Abby Philip, a reporter for WaPo, wrote about Cyril Broderick, a professor at Delaware State (actually an associate professor not a full, full one). She announced that he was not going to have his tenure taken away for having written “a wildly speculative and conspiratorial article” on the Ebola genocide in Africa. Isn’t that fascinating? I had thought you couldn’t take tenure away, it being tenure and all.
Now wait till you hear the innuendo, made by Delaware State spokesman Carlos Holmes. In explaining why Delaware was NOT going to do the impossible, he told Ms Philip that “A lot of people at a university have tenure and then they’ll go out and commit mass murder, okay. We didn’t know that they would do that before they were granted tenure.”
Gee, that innuendo is practically actionable. But think: Is Holmes saying that if Delaware knew that this guy was going to accuse the US of genocide, he would not have been granted tenure? That’s lawsuit material, too! In fact it may be prosecutable. In the article linked below, I discuss the law of genocide in the US. But there’s also the law of misprision of felony. That is, if Broderick knew of Americans doing genocide, and did not report it, he could be imprisoned for misprision. 18 USC4 (which Rodney Stich taught me) says:
“Whoever, having knowledge of the actual commission of a felony cognizable by a court of the United States, conceals and does not as soon as possible make known the same to some judge or other person in civil or military authority under the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”
Love it.
By the way, Broderick is a plant scientist. And the dirt he picked up in regard to Fort Detrick must have come from Len Horowitz’s fact-packed book, “Emerging Viruses.” It could easily have been called “Emerging Genocides.” My article below, on Ebola, includes the 1991 federal law against genocide. It was passed in 1991, in response to a treaty of 1947. Better late than never, eh? Kindly follow this link to my article:
