I grew up in a family that had problems with relationships. Both of my parents were the youngest in their respective families. In fact, both were a full *18 YEARS* younger than their oldest sibling. As a result, they never learned how to have close family ties, so they were never able to pass those skills along to their children.

I have lived with that lack of education all of my life and have watched with dismay as texting has replaced talking and emoticons have replaced feelings (my parents used greeting cards). If the twig is bent early enough, the damage cannot be undone.

This holiday season, look at the electronics that are being offered to the youngest among us. Then, think twice about what you offer your children. (Offer yourself, instead.)

Toymaker unveils talking, singing robot

Japanese toymaker Tomy on Wednesday unveiled a multi-talented humanoid robot, named "Robi jr.," which can converse using some 1,000 phrases and belt out about 50 songs, as well as move its limbs and head.

When asked to sing a song, the robot will answer, "Okay. Then let's sing along together" or "No. Ask me later because I am busy", depending on "its mood".

[MOOD?? I would not want to teach my children that mechanical/electronic devices have "moods".]
