Not many realize that this issue isn't about gay rights or gay marriage. It is about the RIGHT of a human being to decide for himself, or herself or as a tribe (religious movement etc) to THINK one way or another. People who think it is about gay rights should examine the 'liberal' movement behind it all.

Case in point.

See the difference?

What will the DailyKos libs do now? Will they be driven by more MSNBC- FOX-CBS -driven Orwellian Two-Minutes Hate to attack Indian Reservations like they do Christian-run bakeries or Pizza Parlors?? To put these people out of business for nothing more then saying, "No, thank you."

Will they be protesting by shutting down Indian Casinos on Indian lands? Doubtful.

The Cherokee and many other tribes used to turn a blind eye on warriors who chose to live with other warriors, and they want to remain doing that. They are not saying they can't. They are saying (as a majority rule in the votes)that they have the right to ban gay marriage on the reservation. BTW Gays are free to get married off reservation land.

As states across the country pass laws allowing same-sex marriages, the nation’s two largest Native American tribes — as well as a handful of smaller tribes — have laws on the books banning it.

A report by the Associated Press found that the Navajo and the Cherokee have reaffirmed or strengthened their decades-old tribal laws banning gay marriage in recent years. Those two tribes have a collective 600,000 members. The Navajo are clustered in the Southwest, where Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico come together. The Cherokee mostly live in Oklahoma. Another 10 smaller tribes that together have another 350,000 members also now have laws specifically prohibiting gay marriage.

Because they reside on sovereign land, these tribes will still be able to ban same-sex marriage even if the U.S. Supreme Court decides that to do so is unconstitutional when it rules on a landmark same-sex marriage case later this year.
