Great character actor and storyteller, Geoffrey Lewis, has passed.
Wikipedia has reported the passing of Geoffrey Lewis, on April 7. He was 79.
Geoffrey Lewis was one of those people I was always glad to see on my TV screen or on a movie screen. He'd show up and I always had the feeling, "Oh - something good's about to happen!" :) Not that he played only "good" characters. But I knew that, if he was there, someone cared about the film or show they were creating.
Apparently Clint Eastwood thought so, too. :) Wikipedia says:
Lewis worked frequently with actor-director Clint Eastwood in several films including Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Pink Cadillac, Any Which Way You Can, Bronco Billy, Every Which Way but Loose, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and High Plains Drifter.
A logical extension of acting is the art of storytelling, and Lewis was very active and a respected presence in that art.
Lewis was the father of character actress Juliette Lewis, presently appearing along with Ryan Philippe in ABC's "Secrets and Lies".
Below, a short video of Lewis in storytelling mode, from a performance in about 1991. Uploader John Mayer remarks, "This video was distributed on the original multi-media magazine called "Nautilus." The video itself -- one of the very first digital videos ever created -- was only 160x120 pixels, 12 frames per second and required extensive modification to make it viewable with today's equipment. I don't believe that this is available anywhere else, and I hope that Celestial Navigations can obtain the original video and release it on DVD or at their site, in the original quality that I'm sure it was recorded."
