A possible cause that has nothing to do with satanism or cannibalism would be HIV infection. Having been in a family where we did NOT have "cold sores" growing up, I was HIV-free until about age 48. Woke up with the right side of my mouth drooping and my right eyelid drooping so far it would hardly open. I thought stroke, but the doctor said no, Bell's Palsy. He asked if I had gotten HIV as an adult (yes, within the previous year). It can affect the 7th cranial nerve, which controls the eyelid, corner of mouth, and other muscles on that side of the face. When you get herpesvirus as an adult, it can affect you more (like the Bell's Palsy), and it takes longer for your body to "wear out" the virus. Attacks can happen at any time, mine start with pain in the jaw-joint on that side, like a charley horse, and can last a week or two. Lemon balm (melissa) from the mint family helps the shorten the length of an attack and can even get one to back off completely if I put the homemade ointment on the joint in front of the ear, under the curve of the jaw and in the hollow below/behind the ear. Sometimes I get the same symptoms on the OTHER side though no paralysis like the first attack on the right. I had to tape the eye closed because the blink reflex was gone completely and the eye kept drying out where the lid only half-covered the eye.

Summary of the above: I've read HIV is rampant in un-holywood, and it may be at least a few of those droopy-eye people might have Bell's Palsy and its aftereffects that didn't completely resolve.
