HERE IS THE SITUATION ON THE BATTLEFIELD OF IDEAS -- SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND FRONT:

Snow and plenty of it. Cold and plenty of it.

But we gots plenty of coffee for the machine and one can of "they make 'em and you bake 'em biscuits".

Been checking my e-mail and it is boring.

Looking at my calendar, and I now see that it is 100 years and six months since the Great War commenced in Europe. Soon I will begin an essay/thread on how the Great War changed everything in Europe and then dragged the U.S. into it.

It has long been my contention that World War I and II were actually the same war, broken only by a 21 year truce, and some reshuffling of the "players" as Japan switched sides and so did Italy.

I hope to get going on this thread later today or this evening.

When we got mashed by the Hacker Attacker it seems that much of the work I have done here got mashed, too. The best part of thirteen years' worth of contributions were nixed.

I was ready to quit entirely. Sometimes, when you are getting whipped in the ring, you got to toss in the towel, and stop the beating.

Then -- that thought just made me mad as hell !!!
