The latest escalation began with a series of attacks by Kashmir rebels on 18 September, during which were killed 18 Indian soldiers. White House urges peace

The White House urged India and Pakistan to avoid escalation of the conflict because of Kashmir.

White House spokesman Josh Ernest told reporters that reports from the field show that the Armed Forces of India and Pakistan have made "a kind of" communication and that Washington supports these talks in order to avoid escalation of the conflict.

Advisor to President Barack Obama for security issues Susan Rice held talks with Indian counterpart and emphasized the "great concern" of the United States in this situation.
