Don't you love reality glitches? You must have dreamt it, hallucinated it, misremembered it? Or did it really happen?
This seems so silly I have waited two days to post it, but I can't get it out of my mind.
I play Scrabble online with friends (the only reason I haven't deleted my Facebook account). The other night I took a turn, and the little teacher icon made a face which means there was something much better I could have done. I clicked to find out, and it showed me I could have put the word ZAZ in another part of the board. (There is only one Z in Scrabble so this used a Z, an A, and a blank wild-card tile.) I thought to myself, wow, I didn't know ZAZ was in the Scrabble dictionary (MW-US). I knew ZAX was, but not ZAZ.
The next day I got to wondering what "zaz" means. It is urban slang, a verb, meaning to inflict the music you are listening to though earbuds on those around you by having the volume too loud. I thought, that's an odd thing to actually be in the Merriam-Webster Scrabble dictionary, so I opened the Scrabble app on my tablet and checked it, and it was rejected! Not in the dictionary! I tried it in the Facebook Scrabble app on my computer. Also rejected. Then I went back to that game, in which the other person hadn't played yet, and noticed that I didn't have a letter A. I had the Z which I had just used, and the blank tile, but no A, nor had I used it! A software glitch? But to both suggest a non-valid word, and use a letter I didn't have?
So, was I dreaming? Did I hallucinate it? Misremember? But I remembered exactly where it told me I could have played ZAZ, and what the score would have been.
So, a brief sojourn to a parallel nearly identical timeline? Are we doing this all the time, but we don't usually shift right back, and remember something that was different?
And then there was the time a few years ago when I had a 45-minute time overlap. I posted that once, but it probably got deleted. Maybe I'll repost it sometime.
