Email Testimony

Dear Dave,

About 2 months ago, God told me to pray for my enemies. I said to Him: "God, you know my heart, you know that I have never hated anyone, and you know that I have no enemies in my life, except those global and common to all of us, such as Schwab, Gates and others known and unknown. I do not hate them either, but if I pray it will only be words without any meaning and feeling. I cannot find that prayer in my heart." And that was it. A few weeks after that, I remembered it again and my conversation with God was the same.

Until the other day, when I was cooking lunch and started thanking God for all His blessings, that thought suddenly popped up again: "Pray for your enemies." I started with the same answer and got really irritated, raised my voice and waved my hands and told God that I couldn't find a prayer for them in my heart. I was irritated and frustrated because my Father is asking something from me that, not that I don't want to, but that I can't do. I felt so much pressure/burden in my chest (it's not a psychological cause, but when I don't do something God wants or do something He doesn't want, the pressure/burden appears and when I correct the situation it disappears).

I said to Him: "God, you know me better than I know myself and you know that I want them to get a good beating and then be locked up in a dungeon for the rest of their lives without any privileges. That is my wish, but you, God, know their heart and let your will be done. But I can't pray for them." That thought still didn't leave me and I became more and more upset and finally said very loudly: God, if you really want me to pray for them, let Jesus touch my heart because I can't do it otherwise. And tell me God: WHY???" And then a thought appeared: "Because they have no one else."

My heart opened, the pressure disappeared and I began to cry. Although it was not a voice but a thought, it was still colored with so much compassion towards my enemies and my "I can't" was completely erased. Also that one single sentence spoke of so much loneliness of my enemies because the Father is not in their lives. I deeply felt sorry for them. Then I realized that my enemies have no family, friends, acquaintances, a community that would pray for them because they are all in darkness and we, Christians, are their only hope, the only intercessors before God.

Since then, I have no problem praying from my heart for my enemies and for their family and friends. Not because I started to feel love for them, because I only feel pity, but because my Father cares about it, and I, like all other Christians, am the only one who can do it and I do it for Him.

And right now, as I write this, I realized something (actually the Holy Spirit worked) and got goosebumps: Praying for them doesn't really have anything to do with them personally, but it has everything to do with WHO I AM. I am a child of God who wants to be as Christ-like as possible, and God has just opened a door for me. How wonderful is His love and care!
