emp bends the earths electrical field by referencing ground similar to a power plant generator. If you bend the electrical field in a power plant say 4 feet you get around 24000 volts. if a emp blast goes off the field would bend 40 feet for 1 second generating a pulse of 240000 volts frying everything from the higher voltage.
batteries work in a different way there is no electrical field referencing ground it just references the positive and negative of the battery.
you should be good on the battery system if your not referencing ground
