It's possible that regular use of some hair dyes over an extended period of time is to blame for blood cancers and, possibly, even Alzheimer's disease or at least may be a contributing factor.

I had posted a page on Rita Cansino who became Rita Hayworth when she dyed her hair from black to red and changed her name. That page, 'Little Rita Cansino Knocks 2 of Actor Glenn Ford's Teeth Out - Photo - Also Vaccines & Alzheimer's' which also mentioned actress Gene Tierney is at:

and leaves some of the possible blame for mental confusion and Alzheimer's disease on vaccines and immunizations, but there may be a more common cause of such illnesses which affect the brain.

Some sources now publish that according to studies the regular use of certain hair dyes can contribute to blood cancers, etc. if used over dozens of years as in the case, for example, of actress Rita Hayworth who dyed her hair for what appears to be decade after decade. (Continues below photos)

According to advancednaturalmedicine.com (1) the American Journal of Epidemiology found that women (probably men, too) who dyed their hair for years run a greater risk of developing non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph system.

Note, in particular, the chemical phenylenediamine which is usually found in permanent hair dyes also known as oxidation dyes or peroxide dyes. Repeated exposure to this chemical also may cause bladder cancer and is associated with upper digestive, lung, and colon cancers, also. Some folks nowadays 'have to go' a lot and couldn't this be a common culprit causing all the 'going'?

Also the coal tar in hair dyes may have toxic substances such as benzene and others. Benzene is associated with causing leukemia.

'Five Occupations Linked to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's' flat out states that,

"Hairdressers were at increased risk of death from Alzheimer's disease, presenile dementia and motor neuron disease", indicating the contact with the hair dying chemicals may increase risk of Alzheimer's. (2)

All in all it must be noted that applying the chemicals in hair dyes directly onto the scalp is placing those chemicals right next to brain cells. The fact that the skull and some tissue separate the brain from the hair and external layer of skin does not necessarily prevent solvents and chemicals applied directly to the scalp from penetrating the scalp over a period of time after many applications and possibly contaminating the brain.

It's a phenomenon similar to cell phone use where persons place an electromagnetic handset device directly up against their heads saturating the brain with microwave and as long as there is no public announcement that it is dangerous folks continue to do it.

Lovely Rita Hayworth gave us many great moments of cinema and may have paid a rather ultimate price for her success. Some sources suggest her daughter was very loving and caring and took wonderful care of Rita through to the end, but poor Rita, reportedly, could not recognize her own family members.
