i flew 747s for about 11 years starting in 1987. at that time they had a gross takeoff weight of about 800,000 pounds with 300,000 pounds of that being fuel.

typical heavy freight trains weigh about 20,000 tons (not 200), or 40,000,000 pounds, about 50 times more than an old fully loaded 747.

so airplanes are not "so heavy" relative to trains. in 35 years of commercial flying, i saw no evidence on any airplanes of any tanks or mechanical apparatus for holding or dispensing anything other than fuel, oil or hydraulic fluids on the airline that i worked for.

compressed air alone will not work as a power source on 747 sized jet engines.
