Many of you have likely noticed that there is a prominent person in the political sphere who presents a facade of exaggerated self-love, self-confidence, and self-importance. That persona has fueled a lot of polarized reactions, including idolization and demonization. Perhaps one reason why there are so many strong reactions to that public persona is that on a deep level we all have issues with self-love, self-confidence, and self-worth, and it is easier to project those issues onto an external character than to heal them within ourselves. When we see someone else who in some way reflects something about the issue we carry within ourselves it is not unusual to either be attracted to that person or repelled by that person.

If you notice yourself having a strong reaction it would be wise to reflect on the relevant issue in yourself that may need attention rather than becoming wrapped up in following or flouting another person. When we feel fully secure within ourselves then when we see another person exhibiting either a real or simulated lack or excess of the quality we are deficient in it is less likely to trigger a strong reaction from us. - JS
