Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Is Staring At A Prison Sentence For This Major Scandal
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s career is about to hit its first roadblock.
The controversial Democrat Congresswoman is part of a crisis that’s growing out of control.
And now Ocasio-Cortez could be staring at prison time for violating this major law.
Ocasio-Cortez’s shady campaign practices are under a microscope.
Previous reports have detailed how she may have used campaign money to pay her boyfriend.
But a closer examination of a political action committee that supported her campaign may expose her to criminal prosecution.
Records for the Justice Democrats PAC show that Ocasio-Cortez and Saikat Chakrabarti – who now serves as Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff – took over the PAC in December 2017.
They continued to retain control of the PAC while it supported her 2018 campaign.
But they did not report this to the Federal Elections Commission – which could lead to serious legal consequences for Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti.
The Daily Caller reports on an exclusive interview with former FEC Commissioners Hans von Spakovsky and Brad Smith who explained how she allegedly violated FEC reporting laws:
“If the facts as alleged are true, and a candidate had control over a PAC that was working to get that candidate elected, then that candidate is potentially in very big trouble and may have engaged in multiple violations of federal campaign finance law, including receiving excessive contributions,” former Republican FEC commissioner Hans von Spakovsky told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
And fellow former FEC commissioner Brad Smith told TheDCNF that if “a complaint were filed, I would think it would trigger a serious investigation.” He also noted that such a probe could potentially result in jail time for Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff, Chakrabarti.
The Daily Caller also exclusively reported that Smith explained how this could lead to prison sentences for Ocasio-Cortez and Spakovsky:
Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti could face prison if the FEC determines that they knowingly and willfully withheld their ties between the campaign and the political action committee from the FEC to bypass campaign contribution limits, according to Smith.
“At minimum, there’s a lot of smoke there, and if there are really only three board members and she and [Chakrabarti] are two of them, sure looks like you can see the blaze,” Smith, a Republican, told TheDCNF. “I don’t really see any way out of it.”
Meanwhile, federal prosecutors squeezed Michael Cohen to flip on Donald Trump by using a dubious interpretation of campaign finance reporting laws.
They claimed Cohen did not report payments made to Stormy Daniels as campaign contributions, even though Cohen admitted Trump made other such payments long before he was ever a candidate.
Prosecutors ignored the law in order to gain leverage over Cohen in the scheme to build a criminal case against the President.
But Ocasio-Cortez’s violation of campaign finance laws appears much more cut and dry.
So the real question is whether prosecutors will attack this case with the same zeal—since this time it involves the Democrat Party’s rising star.
