As I have said before I am someone who needs captions or subtitles on movies or else I miss much of the dialogue due to age-related hearing loss. So I grabbed the captions for this film and synced them to version you had posted.

But then I got to thinking, how can I share the subtitles with those who need them? I could put them somewhere for download, but a person would have to 1. download the movie, 2. download the caption file, 3. and above all watch in a player like VLC which allowed loading the subtitle file. A bit complicated for some.

So yesterday I looked into methods for putting a version of the movie on Youtube WHICH ALREADY HAD THE CAPTIONS with it. Just an experiment, to see what could be done.

And, indeed, it can be done.

To learn and test the method I made a new channel called "Movies With Captions" and used "Jamaica Inn" as my first test movie. To make a good test I got two additional subtitle files and synced them, French and Dutch. It took a while but I finally got what I wanted: the movie is there and you can choose from the three subtitle languages.

At least it SEEMS to work. I could use some feedback about whether everyone can choose the subtitles or if it is only me because I created the channel.

Anyway, here is the new channel I made,

You can turn on the English subtitles by clicking the little (CC) button.

Here is what I am not certain about, picking another language. The URL where I am able to do that is this:

[The way to get there is to view the movie on YouTube itself and click the (CC) symbol UNDER THE VIDEO, not the one on the video itself. This should take you to the list of languages.]

What I need to know is does that work for everyone?

The three languages should be on the right side and you can switch between them. It works for me but does it work for everyone? If it works then I will know I am on the right track.
