Last Yugoslav King Peter II Karadordevic was rehabilitated after the Higher Court in Belgrade found that he was a victim of persecution and violence for political and ideological reasons.
Decision on rehabilitation was made on July 10, and it became final on August 22, said the spokesperson of the court Tanja Koljenšić.
Peter II Karadordevic is also the last of Karadjordjevic who was disenfranchised and whose assets were confiscated.
The Higher Court in Belgrade formerly rehabilitated his mother, Mary, and his son Prince Alexander Karadjordjevic, as well as children of Prince Paul Karadjordjevic and Princess Elizabeth Karadjordjevic departed Nicholas.
In a statement, the Higher Court in Belgrade specifies that Peter II Karadjordjevic rehabilitated by force of law, and that the decree of the Presidium of the Presidium of the National Assembly of the FPRY, which stripped him of citizenship and confiscated all of his assets is null and void from the moment of the adoption on 8 March 1947.
The same decision has been declared null and void and all the legal consequences of this decision, including the penalty of confiscation of property.
When making the decision, the court found that, Peter II Karadjordjevic, was a victim of persecution and violence, political and ideological intolerance, which is carried out by the government to ineligible persons, which testifies to its authoritarian statement, the nature and the need to impose the ideology of the ruling class says the decision of the court.
It further adds that the decree of the 1947 King Peter II Karadjordjevic was deprived of basic human rights and freedoms such as the right to a nationality, the right to vote and the right to property.
The Court recalls that all the rights and freedoms guaranteed by international conventions and declarations, international treaties on the rights and freedoms adopted by the Republic of Serbia.
Peter II Karadjordjevic was born in Belgrade, 6 September 1923. He died in Denver, November 3 in 1970.
