APRIL 17 11:00 (17:00 GMT)

In the last 24 hours Popocatepetl volcano has shown an increase in its
activity. There were 5 small exhalations with some steam and ash, and 5
micro-earthquakes with magnitudes smaller than 2.5. Also, there were 7 hours
of harmonic tremor. Since 00 hrs of yesterday, there was a seismic pulsating
sequence that lasted until 12:00. These seismic signals had no external
manifestation.
At 19:48, the volcano registered a moderate explosion that sent incandescent
fragments up to 2 km from the crater, to the North-East and North-West
sectors, and an ash plume that rose 4 Km above the crater (see image)

After the explosion, the volcano has had only 7 exhalations and 1 hour of
harmonic tremor. At the moment of this report, the volcano shows no
fumarolic activity.

ABR 17 11:00 h. (17:00 GMT):

After the explosion of them 19:48 of yesterday, the volcano Popocatépetl
returned to levels of low activity. The explosion threw incandescent
fragments up to a distance estimated of 2 km about the crater, principally
towards the flanks North-east and Northwest (to see image)

column of ash of approximately 4 km of height and with direction to the
Southwest.
Besides the explosion, in the last 24 hours, the volcano Popocatépetl
registered 19 small exhalations accompanied by steams emission(issues) and
gas. Likewise, a microearthquake appeared tectonovolcánico with magnitude of
2.3 and also an episode was registered of tremor harmonicly of low extent
with duration of 1 hour.
To the moment of this report, the top of the volcano is observed clearly and
practically no emanation (to see image).

It is possible that activity explosive, similar to that of yesterday, can
appear in the next hours or days. This condition does not change the
scenes(stages) and the recommendations formulated in previous documents.
It is reinforced to support the restriction of access about the volcano in
radio of 12 Km. The Semaphore of Volcanic Alert remains in Yellow Phase 3.
