The Los Lunas stone, pictured below, is anomaly that would not have been out of place in an Indiana Jones adventure. Situated a few miles west of Los Lunas in New Mexico the stone would seem to defy all conventional notions concerning history and the discovery of the Americas. The inscription is an abridged version of the Decalogue or Ten Commandments written in the old Hebrew alphabet. The script itself closely resembles ancient Phoenician, Moabite and old-Hebrew inscriptions found on various monuments in the Middle East and whilst it may puzzle modern historians it is clearly not a modern day hoax. As far back as 1871, the then landowner, Franz Huning, was told by local Indians that the monument predated their tribes coming to the area. Various scholars have dated the script at around 9th century B.C. while geological examination has yielded a conservative dating estimate of between 500 and 2000 years old - at the very least.

Intriguingly, other findings in the vicinity suggest that whoever was responsible for the inscriptions had some interaction with local Native Americans. Less than 50 yards from the Decalogue inscription there is a another rock carving; according to researchers this carving is by Native Americans and appears to depict a human head wearing a crown, a symbol unknown amongst Native Americans. Moreover on the north-eastern side of the same Los Lunas site there are more mysterious petroglyphs, or rock carvings. According to researcher David Deal these were also carved by Native Americans and one is particularly intriguing. Laid out on a flat rock it depicts the positions of the planets and constellations during the solar eclipse of September 15, 107 B C: which for that year was the Jewish Rosh HaShanah. Just imagine, if indeed there was interaction and co-operation between Native Americans and ancient Hebrews on such arcane matters, it makes Indiana Jones look tame in comparison.
