Is Bible Prophecy Being
Fulfilled Before Our Eyes?

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" And Jesus said unto them:
"...Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there shall be famines, pestilences, AND EARTHQUAKES IN VARIOUS PLACES..." [Matt. 24:3-8, redacted]

The Bible encourages, or rather, instructs, the believers of Christ to watch for specific signs by which they would know that the time of the second coming of Jesus Christ would be nigh. These signs are clearly outlined in the Gospel of Matthew, the tax collector. In admonishing His disciples, who feared the end would come shortly after the crucifixion of the Messiah, Christ told them--and through them, the generations which would follow--that certain abnormalities would occur. Among them, an increase in wars between nations and principalities; famines, pestilences...and, earthquakes.

What is further interesting is how Jesus described these ever increasing events...like a woman in travail. For the benefit of those who have never given birth to a baby, "travail" is birthing labor. As a woman progresses through labor, and as the woman's body "adjusts" to allow the birth, the pains of labor increase both in frequency and in intensity. (Labor pain is a pain that is so intense that it has been said if a woman could remember the intensity of the pain after the delivery was complete, no woman would ever have more than one child.)

Most of us are aware of the fact that within the last few months, devastating earthquakes have hit both South America and subcontinent of Asia. Few of us are aware that within the last ten days, earthquakes have hit a total of seven different nations. Two days ago, earthquakes struck two additional nations. Yesterday, earthquakes rippled through Afghanistan, Pakistan and one other subAsian nation. Last night an earthquake created panic in Japan.

Within the past month, earthquakes (most of them minor) struck no less than two dozen nations. Last year, over a hundred earthquakes or major tremors were recorded. In the 17th century, only 117 earthquakes were noted. Granted, during that period, an earthquake had to hit a populated area before anyone realized something was taking place. But, from the perspective of recorded history, each century has noted dramatic increase both in the frequency and the severity of earthquakes.

When we think of wars, we think not in terms of regional conflicts, civil wars within principalities, or wars between two insignificant nations, we think in terms of conflicts into which our own sons and daughters are called to sacrifice their lives. However, the end of the Cold War did not end war. In fact, regional conflicts, civil wars, and wars between neighboring states have increased dramatically over the past two decades as nations attempt to shrug off despots, or new despots attempt to overthrow newly formed democracies.

Further, in the age of scientific solutions to plagues and pestilence, both are on the rise as the medical community fights antibiotic resistance viruses and bacteria. TB is on the rise; AIDS continues to devastate mankind, and diseases which were thought to have been eradicated early in this century are suddenly reappearing with antibiotic resistant fury.

As we watch the unfolding of global government, and with it, a global economy and the emerging of a UN sanctioned global religious movement that merges the philosophies of all the world's religions into a harmless, cauldron of religious tokenism in which lip service is given to the new god, or goddess of mankind, I must sit back and ask myself...is Bible prophecy being fulfilled before my eyes?

Perhaps, before I retire this evening, I should check to see if the oil lamp beside my bed it full [Matt. 25:1-12].
