According to PHIVOLCS, activity at the Mayon volcano has increased during the past
week. On 25 January, the Alert level was raised to 3. An Alert Level 3 means that there

is an increased tendency towards eruption. Magmatic outbursts are possible within the
coming weeks. On 10 January, an active lava dome was confirmed. Monitoring
networks have reported numerous volcanic earthquakes, continued swelling of the
edifice, and very high gas outputs from the summit crater.

Arenal is a stratovolcano in Costa Rica that has been very active in recent years. An
eruption in 1968 wiped out the town of Pueblo Nuevo, killing 78 people. The volcano has
produced loud explosions, gas clouds, ash and vapor, and lava flows frequently since the
1968 eruption. Arenal's last major eruption occurred in 1993.

Visit the Scripps Web site titled Volcano Expedition from the field in Costa Rica to follow
a two-week-long field trip to six active volcanic areas in the highlands of Costa Rica in
Central America.

I can find no evidence of reported earthquakes in Cost Rica. The Arenal Volcano appears to be ready to go along with the Mayon in the Phillipines.
