IRS UPDATE -
SUPREME COURT DELAYS IMMINENT RAID ON
INDIANAPOLIS BAPTIST TEMPLE
The Supreme Court of the United States has delayed the imminent raid on the Indianapolis Baptist Temple by Federal Marshals. They have scheduled a conference this Friday, January 12, when the Justices of the Court will discuss the case of U.S. v. Indianapolis Baptist Temple and decide whether they are going to review the decision of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which agreed with Judge Sarah Evans Barker, Chief District Judge, Indianapolis that the mainline 50 yr. old Baptist church should pay $6 million in alleged withholding and FICA/Medicare taxes on those who served the church from 1987 to 1993.
The church has contended from the beginning that they cannot recognize a greater sovereign than Jesus Christ who is the purchaser and Head of His church. It is not only a First Amendment issue, but in reality, a First Commandment issue. God said, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." The church has declared that they cannot take the tithes and offerings of God's people and pay a tax to government.
The pastors and congregation of IBT humbly ask for the prayers and support of God's people all over the world at this critical time. Please phone, fax, or wire the Court and beseech them to hear this case. Tens of thousands of churches and ministries, who conduct their affairs the same as IBT, will be affected by this case.
The purge by the Clinton/Reno Justice Department using the precedent of this case has already begun. As a matter of Public Policy, is the government ready to raid churches and Christian ministries all across the land?
