The Great Controversy

Yesterday (February 7, 1999) I felt a powerful urge to visit a certain used bookstore that I had been to only once before. Since I was already out I made an attempt to find it but when I didn't the urge turned into a crave and I ended up in the drive-through lane at McDonald's ordering a Filet-o-Fish Meal. It sort of took me by surprise. I drove home eating my french fries.

At home, after eating my Filet-o-Fish sandwich with extra tarter sauce, I noticed that the urge to visit the bookstore had surfaced again only stronger. It was getting late. I called the bookstore and found out they closed in half an hour. I also got the address. Unable, and unwilling, to resist the urge, I jumped back in my car and drove there.

The place was empty of customers. The proprietor directed me to my favorite section and I started browsing. Suddenly a man showed up and started browsing right where I was. "Odd," I thought, "the whole place is empty but this guy has to browse practically on top of me? He just happens to be interested in the same books that I'm interested in?" It was noticeably awkward. I felt the way I might have felt if I had been the only passenger on a bus and some guy got on and sat down next to me! Weird. Irritating. Distracting, but not illegal.

It was definitely uncomfortable but I wasn't going to be driven away from my section. I held my ground. I was even aware of the act of holding my ground like some kind of a battle was taking place. A tug-o-war. I refused to budge. I kept my browsing firm and steady at a pace I considered normal. I found a book of Andersen's Fairy Tales with the story of "The Princess and the Pea" which I had been looking for. I found a pocket sized Hebrew-English, English-Hebrew dictionary that I was real cheap (but lacked the alphabet). I found a two-volume set of "Joseph In Egypt" by Thomas Mann which delighted me. All while this guy was annoying me.

Finally, when I absolutely refused to budge, he gave up and went off somewhere else. (I don't know where. He could have disappeared in a puff of smoke for all I know. There was something very peculiar about him.)

What I found, in the place that he had vacated, was the book I had come for, although I didn't know it until I got it home and started reading it. That's when it became clear what the powerful urge was all about and why there was some kind of a contest surrounding it. The book is called "The Great Controversy" by Ellen G. White (1944). It was the book I had been searching for even though I had never heard of it before. It is the key to everything I have been writing about. It is the story of the conflict between Christ and Satan and describes everything that has been happening to me.

I am only on page 83 but I have highlighted something important on almost every page. In some cases I have highlighted the whole page! I have so many Post-its marking pages that it's beginning to look like the entire book is going to be one big bookmark. It is truly amazing. This book was written for me.

"Jesus promised His disciples, "When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth:...and He will show you things to come." (John 16:13)

The author of this book states: "Through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, the scenes of the long-continued conflict between good and evil have been opened to the writer of these pages [Ellen G. White]. From time to time I have been permitted to behold the working, in different ages, of the great controversy between Christ, the Prince of life, the Author of our salvation, and Satan, the prince of evil, the author of sin, the first transgressor of God's holy law. Satan's enmity against Christ has been manifested against His followers. The same hatred of the principles of God's law, the same policy of deception, by which error is made to appear as truth, by which human laws are substituted for the law of God, and men are led to worship the creature rather than the Creator, may be traced in all the history of the past."

The author proceeds to illustrate and illuminate the reality of Satan through the trail of historical events, Biblical references, and the pitiful condition of Humanity today. The author backs it all up with the wisdom of the Bible, and the Promise of God through Jesus Christ, to the faithful.

"...Though hidden from sight, he [Satan] is working with all diligence to control the minds [mind control] of the [Christian] worshipers. Like a skillful general, he lays his plans beforehand. As he sees the messenger of God searching the Scriptures, he takes note of the subject to be presented to the people. Then he employs all his cunning and shrewdness so to control circumstances that the message may not reach those whom he is deceiving on that very point. The one who most needs the warning will be urged into some business transaction which requires his presence, or will by some other means be prevented from hearing the words that might prove to him a saver of life unto life."

What I am finding is that if you're not being persecuted in today's world, you are of no consequence. You just ain't happening! Satan only attacks and attempts to ruin those who refuse to sit with him at his table and partake of his unsavory banquet. Those who refuse know the high price of admission into the Satanic dining hall and refuse to pay it. Their refusal constitutes the real threat to the Satanic plan of world domination, currently referred to as the New World Order. If you're doing well just know this: You are most likely "politically correct" and given to schmoozing with your masters. One of the most powerful Satanic mind control methods is called "politically correct behavior". It is a powerful silencer. The tragic irony is that the better you're doing, the worse off you are. The richer you are the more hooks are attached to your soul. The more the world applauds you the deeper you sink into Spiritual quicksand.

Who does this to you is not your friend, my friend, it is your mortal enemy.

"Love not the world, [as distinguished from The Earth] neither the things [toxic trinkets] that are in the world. If any man love the world [his/her toys], the love of the Father [Mother] is not in him [her].." (John 2:15)

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world [aka Satan's Corral]." (John 2:16)

Strictly speaking there is a profound warning in John's words. Do not place power, wealth or status above your love of God which is goodness, kindness and gentleness. For worldly power is mean-spirited, worldly wealth is unkind and worldly status is only gained by brutality. And it's all a trap.

"It was Satan that prompted the world's rejection of Christ. The prince of evil exerted all his power and cunning to destroy Jesus; for he saw that the Saviour's mercy and love, His compassion and pitying tenderness, were representing to the world the character of God. Satan contested every claim put forth by the Son of God, and employed men as his agents to fill the Saviour's life with suffering and sorrow. The sophistry and falsehood by which he had sought to hinder the work of Jesus, the hatred manifested through the children of disobedience, his cruel accusations against Him whose life was one of unexampled goodness, all sprang from deep-seated revenge. The pent-up fires of envy and malice, hatred and revenge, burst forth on Calvary against the Son of God, while all Heaven gazed upon the scene with silent horror."

"I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." (Matthew 28:20)

Make no mistake about it, this world [Satan's Corral] will end. It cannot not withstand the storms that are raging. No structure built of lies upon shifting sands will ever survive what is to come.
