Bush Cabinet Choices Raise Some Eyebrows
SPOTLIGHT
By James P. Tucker Jr.
December 31, 2000
The President-elect's appointment to high positions are politically correct and outrageous
President-elect George W. Bush buckled under "conservative" pressure and dropped plans to nominate Gov. Marc Racicot of Montana as attorney general. First in favor as we go to press is Gov. Frank Keating of Oklahoma, whose strenuous efforts to cover up facts surrounding the Oklahoma City bombing were exposed in The SPOTLIGHT on Oct 11, 1999.
Why "conservatives" do not consider Racicot one of their won is a mystery. As governor, Racicot produced a $22 million surplus which was returned to taxpayers in the form of a 7 percent income tax rebate. Why they would prefer Keating, who threatened and intimidated people to silence them about what really traspired in the Oklahoma bombing, is a greater mystery.
Gen. Colin Powell, secretary of state in waiting and Bush's first appointment, favors American soldiers serving under foreign commanders under direction of the United Nations-not Congress.
The self-described "internationalist" expressed these views directly when questioned by The SPOTLIGHT while serving as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under George Bush the Elder.
Powell defended the use of American troops for far-flung UN missions under foreign commanders while wearing UN uniforms on "historic grounds."
Americans serving under foreign commanders dates back to World War I, Powell said, when pressed on the subject.
Yes, there were occasions when the French flank broke and American soldiers shored it up, momentarily saluting a French officer, but not as a matter of established policy and not for months or years at a time, was the response to Powell.
Powell retreated, disappeared into his entourage.
Powell describes himself as a "Rockefeller Republican" who believes in government-imposed racial quotas in education and employment opportunities, termed "affirmative action; in left-wing speak.
Powell was chosen partly, say State Department and polictical observers, to help Bush curry black voters when he runs for re-election in 2004. Bush carried 8 percent of the black vote in this election, despite many overtures to blacks and hispanics.
The fact that Powell will be the first black secretary of state will please most other nations, they say, and the interests of the rest of the world rise above those of the United States in many aspects of international relations-such as this nation paying one-quarter of UN operating costs and one-third of the 16 "peacekeeping missions" ordered by the Security Council.
In accepting Bush's nomination, Powell made his committment to World government clear.
"Information-technology revolutions are reshaping the world as we know it, destroying politcal boundaries," Powell said. He then spoke of "an economy that is strong, growing, part of the now international system, global trade, with military power.
Powell envisioned a "new map" of the world, "and the new map is a mosaic, a mosaic of many different pieces and many different colors spreading around the world. At the center of this revolution, America stands, inspirational for the world that wants to be free, and we will continue to be that inspiration for the world to be free, and we will continue to be that inspiration by uniquely American internationalism, as President-elect Bush has stated."
Bush nex chose Condoleeza Rice as national security adviser, Alberto Gonzalez as the president's lawyer and Karen Hughes as a White House adviser responsible for strategic planning, communications and speechwriting.
He then appointed Mel Martinez, a Cuban native as secretary of Housing Development and Ann Veneman, a California lawyer, as secretary of agriculture.
With his first six appointments, Bush sent a politically correct message by naming two blacks, three women and two hispanics to high office.
With this track record, Bush felt comfortable naming an endangered species-a white male-as commerce secretary. Bush chose Donald Evans, his campaign chairman. Paul O'Neil, chairman of Alcoa Inc. was chosen for treasury secretary.
Bilderberg-Trilateral control of Bush is absolute. His vice president, Dick Cheney, addressed meetings of the Trilateral Commission while secretary of defense under the president-elect's father, who was also a Trilateralist. Close advisers include Henry Kissinger, secretary of state under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford and a member of the Bilder-Trilateral interlocking leadership.
Others include Richard Armitage and Richard Perle, both of whom served as assistant secretary of defense under Ronald Reagan. Both also attended Bilderberg meetings while serving.
