IN THY NAME
There is so much being done "in thy name"!
Different names for and ways of looking at God are really only different ways of worshiping the same deity. Different religions, churches, and cults are only different ways of viewing reality and the world. Yet "in thy name," people kill each other, simply because of the different angles from which they view the same God.
Why have we not discovered that forms are of no great importance but merely different vehicles ro reach the same end? Some like it slow, some like it fast; some like it silent, some like it loud. Some even like to shout Thy Name as if everyone else were deaf. Some like to worship through dancing, singing, and drumming; some are quiet, some ebullient.
Some call Thy Name "creative energy": some call it "Divine Will."
The American Indian made obeisance to the "Great Spirit." But what difference does it all make, so long as we know we are part of it all, a part of Thy Name?
To be part of something means that we care about it: if we didn't we would be part of something else. Would we be with the kachinas who dance all night long, punctuated by the rhythm of drums in the kivas? Would we be in a great cathedral, or within the decrees of the Vatican, or in the golden temples of India or Mecca? Rest assured, these are all simply the ways of humanity, the many alleys devised to reach the true meaining of Thy Name.
In two thousand years someone will say, "What have we learned? Who are we? Aren't we the ones-the great, great, great grandchildren of the ones-who saw Abraham, Moses, Christ, Budha, and Mohammed?
As the multitudes once said of Christ, "Kill him, kill him!" he who had one nothing but love them-so today the multitudes still cry out to kill the spiritual leaders who love them. But are these the same multitudes who refused the first time?
Children of humanity, may you learn that love, and love alone, is the eternal way that fixes the stars in the heavens, attracts the atoms of the Earth to one another, and holds mothers in adoration of the little ones in their arms.

The great Teacher of them all has no name, and knows that it will always be so.
