The Lebanese Parliament voted last Friday to give president Emile Lahoud another three years in office despite repeated strong objections from the United Nations and United States, which says that 'Syria forced the decision upon Lebanon, pressuring and intimidating members of parliament'...
So Lebanon is going to continue relationship with Syria.
Hundreds of Lebanese came to congratulate Lahoud on the extension of his term for another three years office, a 'decision' which - according to US Admin - was orchestrated by Syrian Government. Some Lebanese although expressed their anger that parliament changed the constitution to extend Lahoud's term, but angry too that the U.N. tried to interfere so expressed by Lebanon's leading Christian cleric, Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir who said that "...Lebanon had acted against international law by going against an U.N. resolution".....
Lebanese and Syrian politicians have dismissed the objections of intimidations or any pressure, saying the international community has no right to interfere in Lebanon's internal politics.
Lahoud said in a statement: "This kind of arrangement will continue with the aim of achieving just and complete and lasting peace, which spreads the stability which Lebanon and Syria enjoy over other countries of the region."
The U.N. Security Council passed a U.S.-drafted resolution No. 1559 - "warning against foreign interference" in Lebanon and "calling for all foreign troops to withdraw", though it did not mention Syria by name (though different from Washington). It calls also for "the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias."
Syria has appr. 17,000 to 20,000 troops in Lebanon and a tight grip on the presidency and other institutions. If we go back to an older post from May...

...there seems to be some evidence that 'something' might be hidden under the endless poppy fields of the Bekaa Valley that is simply used as a pledge. And almost everything that happens in plain sight could be used nowadays as a 'Blue-Chip'(Please, to redeem later!) in the ongoing fight for dominance which might be the reason that we get to know so little truth by now.
You cannot 'deal' TRUTH...
If we further take into considerance that Russia was one of the closest allies of Iraq one might connect some of the dots emerging to public view right now: First the ongoing struggle of Putin for getting rid of the YUKOS players, who managed to gain a fortune on sacking the country by forming an alliance with old president Boris Jelzin (with support of western 'Oiligarchs') and -second - the latest acts of terror in the Southern parts of Russia aimed at destabilizing Putin's rePUTatIoN as a firm leader in the eyes of the public.
But Russia is next to draw, as the recent visit of Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the Middle East may show us.

See which countries did oppose the changing of the Lebanese constitution: The permanent Security Council members USA and France. Wonder if the French envoy was wearing a headscarf. And, tell me, how is the situation with the kidnapping of the two French journalists, Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot developing right now?
Also watch that a top Saddam aide (Izzat Ibrahim al Douris - the #6 from the 55 most wanted!!) was allegedly captured right now, which - if it is true - could point towards a new balance in the ongoing struggle again. Tit for tat. If he really might have been a 'Russian Bishop' on 'their' side of the chessboard....
