A rabbi's car was sprayed with bullets in the heavily Jewish West Rogers
Park neighborhood of Chicago. In addition, three Palestinian-American
teen-agers are in police custody and will likely be charged with a hate
crime after they allegedly shot marbles from a slingshot in the area.
Police are still looking for suspects in the shooting. Nobody was
injured in any of the incidents.

Attackers set fire to five more synagogues in France, bringing the
number of anti-Semitic incidents over the last few weeks to about 70,
police said on Friday. Jewish community leaders suspect the attacks are
mostly the work of disgruntled youths of Arab descent who have no ties
with organized Islam.

The Anti-Defamation League is launching a database of extremist symbols
to help parents, educators and police identify the influence of hate
groups in their communities. Accessible on the organization's Web site -
www.adl.org - the database provides information about more than three
dozen hate symbols commonly used by neo-Nazis, white supremacists and
other organized hate groups.

Oman said it would suspend low-level ties with Israel in order to show
its support with the Palestinians in the crisis in the Middle East.
Among its moves, Oman will close its trade office in Israel and the
Israeli commercial mission in the Gulf state. Along with Qatar, Oman is
the only Gulf state to have such ties with the Jewish state.

Vandals attacked several synagogues in Canada during the past two weeks
in incidents apparently linked to the violence in the Middle East,
according to the Canadian Jewish Congress. Meanwhile, officials of the
Jewish community are shocked by the hateful levels of rhetoric voiced at
a recent pro-Palestinian rally outside the Israeli Consulate in Toronto.

New York police filed hate crimes charges against three Arab Americans
in connection with vandalism against a synagogue in the Bronx. The three
young men are accused of throwing a bottle of vodka and breaking a
window at Synagogue Adath Israel on Sunday. Meanwhile, Israeli Cabinet
minister Rabbi Michael Melchior met in Jerusalem with representatives of
several Jewish organizations and leaders of European Jewish communities
to discuss the increase in anti-Semitic incidents throughout the world
in the past two weeks.

The U.S. Senate passed a measure that would make it easier for victims
of terrorism to claim damages from the frozen assets of countries
suspected of supporting terrorism. Federal courts have awarded terror
victims multimillion-dollar judgments, but the administration has
blocked the freeing of assets to pay the damages, citing national
security interests. The president is expected to sign the measure into
law.

The German Parliament condemned a spate of attacks against Jews and
synagogues in recent months. The display of cross-party unity was aimed
at countering Jewish concerns about public indifference over the
attacks.
