Most likely at least ONE aim of the new missile tech is to create a defense screen against unexpected celestial incursions (sentient or non-sentient). Remember the NASA official hiding out in a cave, "raving" about the inevitablility of Comet Lee-trailing meteors impacting earth, atleast within 20 years? This may be a cover in case NASA's apparent attempt to divert the Cassini space probe into a path of impact with Comet Lee (with its 72 lb. plutonium fuel payload) succeeds only in fragmenting the comet and eventually raining it down on our heads in pieces.
