I just received the following update from Doretta. She promises she will do a press release this weekend.

Her update looks like it is good news. But remember, when you play in the world of spies and lies, nothing is ever as it appears.

If the information Les Coleman related regarding the change in Judge Platt's attitude is true then maybe more of our letters to the Judge will help convince him that Les was set up by our government, not once, not twice, but three times!!!

Please read what Doretta has written, and then write a letter to Judge Platt. In case you don't know, Les's three children are still in foster care in Kentucky. He has been told that they may be adopted because there is no one who can care for them.

Les's wife has been devastated physically and emotionally due to his repeated incarcerations and the brutality he has suffered in prison. She is unable to care for the children by herself. If Les is not released soon, his three children may be put up for adoption.

When you write your letter to Judge Platt, please let him know about Les's children... and please be polite.

It appears, from what Doretta has written below, that Judge Platt was not given the whole story by the prosecutor. Now that Judge Platt understands there is more to this story than he was told, please don't write anything that might offend him.

Thank you for your help in bringing light to the ordeal that Les Coleman and his family have been through. When you are a whistle blower here in the United States, you have about as many rights as a dissident in Cuba has. Please help Les.

Hi Everyone:

Les called this eve, May 12th, sounding upbeat. The following is a snapshot of what happened in court today:

Apparently the prosecution is demanding a transcript of Les's Kentucky trial, contending that Les may have violated his supervised release by testifying about the Pan Am 103 tragedy.

Mike Meehan, Les' lawyer from Kentucky, has said that this precluded Les from admitting to his conviction in Kentucky and, instead, he pleaded 'not guilty' to the charges.

Present in the courtroom today on the prosecution side was FBI agent David Edward. According to Les, Edward is the same agent who (together with agent Chris Murray) led the character assassination campaign against Les, Aviv and others who have countered the US government's version of the bombing.

But Judge Platt produced an unexpected monkey wrench: the article on Roland O'Neill which appeared in the Sunday Herald. According to Les, Platt informed the prosecution that the government has some explaining to do, referring to the Herald article.

The Judge also announced that he had been inundated with mail in support of Les and apparently referred to a letter from Emily D. (Kentucky) expressing concern for the Coleman children. (Les was given a copy of this letter.)

Les described Platt as "jovial" and conjectures that he may have been duped previously.

Les told me that, from what he could tell, the prosecution was totally unprepared for the revelation that Platt had been furnished a copy of the Herald article.

No conclusions were reached today. Because the prosecution needs time to review the records from the KY trial, a new hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday (May 16-17) of next week.

Les surmises that because the FBI was present today and went "ballistic" about the O'Neill allegations being waved around in the air by a federal judge — that they might try to use next week's hearing to discredit the Libyan defense team. He seems to think that they will attempt to cast suspicion on O'Neill as being in collusion with Les. But who knows? Whatever they do, they have a scant week in which to collect their thoughts. Apparently, these fellows aren't exactly intellectual giants.

Ian Ferguson (journalist who co-authored the NPR series on Pan Am 103) called me this eve and said that he will try to get something written about Les's latest court hearing in the Sunday Herald (same Glasgow paper that broke the O'Neill story) this weekend. His itinerary won't permit him to be present in the Uniondale courtroom next week, but he is going to try to get a good reporter to cover the hearing. I'll write up a release.

Les has given me a few possibilities for the NY media. If I can break from my assignments this coming week, I'll go to Uniondale, but it doesn't look likely. And anyway, I'm not a journalist, just a writer. (;-) There needs to be a good reporter who knows the wily ways of the justice system sitting in that courtroom.

The above information was taken from a personal note Doretta sent to me and a few other people who are working to help Les -- I expect that she will put together an excellant press release which will give far more information. However, she won't be able to get to it until late tomorrow -- Since there is a time factor involved here, I wanted to get this out tonight so you will have the time needed to compose letters and get them in the mail.

Les also needs money to make phone calls and buy things such as snacks, tooth paste etc. The facility only takes postal money orders. If you can send something , please do. The address and his Federal ID # are included in Doretta's information from the RMNews webpage.

Thank you again for everything you have done --- Please excuse any typos -- It is my birthday and I was out celebrating tonight -- Asti Spumante does not mix well with typing.

Also -- There was a ring around the sun today -- over my house. Does anyone know what a ring around the sun means? I took a picture of it.
