FLIGHT MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING IN OAKLAND AFTER COCKPIT FOGS

SAN FRANCISCO (April 27, 2000 2:41 a.m. EDT http://www.nandotimes.com) - An Alaska Airlines flight with more than 100 people on board bound from San Jose to Seattle landed in Oakland late Thursday after smoke or mist was noticed in the passenger compartment.

The airline did not know what caused the mist or smoke on Flight 299, spokesman Bill MacKay said. He said neither the crew nor the 104 passengers were hurt.

Passengers took other flights Thursday night to Seattle.

"One hundred percent of the passengers were very, very grateful to the captain" for making the landing, passenger Jay Keeler of Miami told KTVU television in Oakland.

The plane was being examined in Oakland by Alaska Airlines personnel, MacKay said.
