No gun law on the books could have prevented the death of this young girl. If Congress wants to look at laws --- they need to take a long hard look at the insidious influence of drugs and welfare in the Black community.

Who created this? And why?

Crack addiction killed this young first grader. A crack addict with an addiction and a stolen gun killed this child.

How many more children will be killed because drugs are illegal?

Instead of making guns illegal for law abiding citizens -- maybe we should make illegal drugs legal for law breaking citizens. If we did, a crack addict wouldn't need a stolen gun to steal the money he needs to buy his illegal drugs.

Prohibition didn't work with alchohol. It hasn't worked with drugs --- and it WON'T WORK WITH GUNS!!!

Clinton Meets With Slain Girl's Mom

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Looking to break a stalemate over gun control legislation, President Clinton invited members of Congress and the mother of a slain 6-year-old to the White House today. ''How many people have to get killed before we do something?'' he asked.

Clinton chided lawmakers for failing to meet to work out the differences between the House and Senate versions of a juvenile justice bill since last summer, saying that ''the American people have waited long enough'' for new protections.

He challenged Congress to produce final legislation for his signature by April 20, the anniversary of the massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado.

''I know the gun lobby is cranking up pressure on Congress again,'' Clinton said. ''But when first-graders shoot first graders, it's time for Congress to do what's right for America's families.''

Later today, Clinton was meeting with Veronica McQueen in a private. McQueen's daughter, Kayla Rolland, was shot to death in her first-grade classroom last week, allegedly by another 6-year-old.

''As a parent, my heart goes out to her,'' Clinton said. ''And as president, I'm going to do all that I can do to see that this doesn't happen to other children.''

Key lawmakers left an Oval Office meeting with Clinton without an agreement to restart negotiations over a juvenile justice bill that contains new measures designed to keep guns out of the hands of children and criminals.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed frustration and suggested he was considering removing the gun provisions from the bill in order to win passage of its other components.

The key hang-up was a provision in the Senate bill that would require people purchasing firearms at gun shows to wait three days for a background check. The House version would require only a 24-hour waiting period. Clinton supports the tougher version.
