PINE RIDGE OCCUPATION - UPDATE FROM WILD HORSE - 1-26-2000 THREE MESSAGES - NOTE THE TIME SENT ================================== COMMENT FROM DOT BIBEE: I called Wild Horse this morning and verified this information and to CLARIFY things as they are right now - just after 1:30 p.m. EST. I apologize for not posting these earlier, but AOL access is hard to get right now. The modem has to dial around 12 or more times to get a line - and yes, I have ALL of their access numbers from Knoxville. The man who was SHOT has a bullet in his leg. White Horse stated that he is in the hospital having the bullet removed. THANKFULLY, NO ONE WAS KILLED. No one there knows WHO might have shot at this man. Of course, investigations are underway. THE EMERGENCY CALL UP - is for the many natives (and others) in the immediate surrounding area who can drive there within hours (not days). This does NOT mean that if there is someone who can be of HELP to them should not COME to their aid from any part of the country. They just don't want people coming there to gawk or someone that they will have to feed and take care of. PRAYERS are needed for these people who are BRAVE enough to tackle the FEDERAL establishment. I have been getting all KINDS of crazy responses that INDIANS are not protected by the Constitution, etc. etc. I feel that they SHOULD BE protected by ALL OF US - after all, they are our NATIVE Americans - regardless of how our ancestors may have treated them - and are still treating them. Many of these people are Christians - and have put out word that they have declared WAR on the WITCHES and SHAMANS who are trying to destroy their Indian heritage. So, until you check them out, don't be putting ALL of them into ONE category and forgetting about them. PLEASE HELP IN ANY WAY YOU CAN. Call the Tribal House - and see what you can do. The Grass Roots Oglala Lakota Oyate met at 2:00 AM after a Tokala was shot. The Tokala had left the perimeter without permission after receiving strict orders not to leave his post. The Tokala will be dealt with by leaders of the Tokala Society upon his return. Therefore we respect our fellow brothers and to call a standby alert due to the fact that we have elders, children and handicapped persons in the tribal building. Presently, the situation is under control and we'll update all out information as we continue to monitor the building.
