The poor fellow doesn't realize it was a human craft he spotted - the ultra-secret TR-3B "flying triangle" built by the U.S. government at Area 51. It's based on reverse-engineered alien technology.

Notice that he says the craft was being ESCORTED BY MILITARY HELICOPTERS! Undoubtedly, the Air Force was taking their billion-dollar baby out for a spin.

Not all UFOs are alien! This might even explain the famous Phoenix UFO sightings of 1997. The TR-3B is a big mother, that may be what people saw when they described a "football field sized" UFO silently drifting over Phoenix.
