Drudgereport has an article on the Jan. 20 coming "bloodred" moon of the lunar eclipse. Note in particular at the bottom of the article Matt is carrying from Reuters. And the last paragraph that states that Columbus used the phenomenon of the "red" lunar eclipse to mislead the indigenous people he encountered.

Fast forward half a millenium... Several "blood red" and "sackcloth" lunar eclipses of the past few years have occurred directly over Jerusalem. And fallen precisely on major feast days of the Jewish Calendar. Per past editions of the Farmer's Almanac
