THE SECRET U.S. INTEL WAR & A COUP?
Last week I reported on this extraordinary situation that some think could result in the President being convicted of murder:
“How much longer can this explosive story be suppressed?
As a result of a leak that Ambassador Joseph Wilson's wife, Valerie [Plame] Wilson, was a CIA agent, her entire team of overseas assets were killed.
Karl Rove, President Bush's White House advisor, has been identified as the leaker. Ambassador Wilson said Rove was identified as the leaker from a secret investigation done by the State Department's Internal Security Unit (ISD). The investigation would have had to have the tacit permission of Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Ambassador Wilson's attorneys are petitioning the Department of Justice to prosecute Karl Rove under the Intelligence Identity Protection Act.
If Rove can be proved to be guilty and if Rove reveals that President George Bush ordered him to do the leak, then the President's shield of immunity will be removed and then HE can be prosecuted for the murder of the intelligence agents.”
WILL THE PRESIDENT BE CONVICTED OF MURDER?
Further probing revealed that the Wilson/Plame_ Rove scandal is indicative of the battle between an inner Pentagon intelligence Cabal named OSP (Office of Special Plans) and the CIA and DIA.
Even more alarming is a report of an imminent coup.
Why is former Ambassador Joseph Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame Wilson, a target?
“Wilson was sent to Niger last year to investigate claims that Iraq was trying to acquire yellowcake uranium for a nuclear weapons program. Wilson discovered the claim was bogus, but the administration proceeded to repeat the allegation over and over again, including in the State of the Union. Wilson came forward to explain that he had first-hand knowledge of the inaccuracy of the claim.
Shortly thereafter, the administration tried to diminish the story by attacking Wilson's credibility. When that didn't work, two unnamed "senior administration officials" told conservative newspaper columnist Robert Novak that Wilson's wife, Plame, was involved in sending Wilson to Niger in the first place. Though the claim was false, the administration outed Wilson's wife as an undercover CIA agent in the process.
This, of course, raised a host of problems. First, the administration placed a CIA agent's career in danger. Second, they jeopardized the safety of her contacts around the world. Third, it's a felony to leak classified information, which this was."
“On July 14, in his syndicated column, Chicago Sun-Times journalist Robert Novak reported that Valerie Plame Wilson - the wife of former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, and mother of three-year-old twins - was a covert CIA agent. (She had been known to her friends as an "energy analyst at a private firm.")
Why was Novak able to learn this highly secret information? It turns out that he didn't have to dig for it. Rather, he has said, the "two senior Administration officials" he had cited as sources sought him out, eager to let him know. And in journalism, that phrase is a term of art reserved for a vice president, cabinet officers, and top White House officials.
On July 17, Time magazine published the same story, attributing it to "government officials." And on July 22, Newsday's Washington Bureau confirmed "that Valerie Plame ... works at the agency [CIA] on weapons of mass destruction issues in an undercover capacity." More specifically, according to a "senior intelligence official," Newsday reported, she worked in the "Directorate of Operations [as an] undercover officer."
In other words, Wilson is/was a spy involved in the clandestine collection of foreign intelligence, covert operations and espionage. She is/was part of a elite corps, the best and brightest, and among those willing to take great risk for their country. Now she has herself been placed at great - and needless - risk.
Why is the Administration so avidly leaking this information? The answer is clear. Former ambassador Wilson is famous, lately, for telling the truth about the Bush Administration's bogus claim that Niger uranium had gone to Saddam Hussein. And the Bush Administration is punishing Wilson by targeting his wife. It is also sending a message to others who might dare to defy it, and reveal the truth.
No doubt the CIA, and Mrs. Wilson, have many years, and much effort, invested in her career and skills. Her future, if not her safety, are now in jeopardy.
After reading Novak's column, The Nation's Washington Editor, David Corn, asked, "Did senior Bush officials blow the cover of a US intelligence officer working covertly in a field of vital importance to national security--and break the law--in order to strike at a Bush administration critic and intimidate others?"
The answer is plainly yes. Now the question is, will they get away with it?
Bits and pieces of information have emerged, but the story is far from complete. Nonetheless, what has surfaced is repulsive. If I thought I had seen dirty political tricks as nasty and vile as they could get at the Nixon White House, I was wrong. The American Prospect's observation that "we are very much into Nixon territory here" with this story is an understatement.
Indeed, this is arguably worse. Nixon never set up a hit on one of his enemies' wives.
Leaking the Name of a CIA Agent Is a Crime”
Last spring after invading Iraq and no WMDs were found, the secret intelligence schism started to erupt into public view.
“The search [for WMD], is especially vital for The Cabal. In the brave new world of post-11 September America, this tight group of analysts deep in the heart of the Pentagon has been the driving force behind the war in Iraq. Numbering no more than a dozen, The Cabal is part of the Office of Special Plans, a new intelligence agency which has taken on the CIA and won. Where the CIA dithered over Iraq, the OSP pressed on. Where the CIA doubted, the OSP was firm. It fought a battle royal over Iraq and George Bush came down on its side.
The OSP is the brainchild of Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who set it up after the 2001 terrorist attacks. It was tasked with going over old ground on Iraq and showing that the CIA had overlooked the threat posed. But its rise has caused massive ructions in the normally secretive world of intelligence gathering.
The OSP reports directly to Paul Wolfowitz, a leading hawk in the administration. They bypassed the CIA and the Pentagon's own Defence Intelligence Agency when it came to whispering in the President's ear. They argued a forceful case for war against Saddam before his weapons programmes came to fruition. More moderate voices in the CIA and DIA were drowned out. The result has been a flurry of leaks to the US press. One CIA official described The Cabal's members as 'crazed', on a 'mission from God'.
But for the moment The Cabal and Rumsfeld's Pentagon have won and Powell's doveish State Department has lost. Tensions between the two are now in the open.
'Rumsfeld set up his own intelligence agency because he didn't like the intelligence he was getting,' said Larry Korb, director of national security studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. 'He doesn't like Powell's approach, a typical diplomat, too cautious.'
Former CIA officials are caustic about the OSP. Unreliable and politically motivated, they say it has undermined decades of work by the CIA's trained spies and ignored the truth when it has contradicted its world view.
'Their methods are vicious,' said Vince Cannistraro, former CIA chief of counter-terrorism. 'The politicisation of intelligence is pandemic, and deliberate disinformation is being promoted.”
“THE continuing failure to find Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction has triggered a blame game in America’s intelligence agencies that erupted into public view yesterday.
As the hunt continues for Iraq’s alleged stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons — the main justification cited by President Bush for the war — carefully placed leaks revealed deep misgivings inside the CIA over intelligence used by the White House to make its case against Saddam.
Present and former CIA officials, quoted in The New York Times and The New Yorker magazine, claimed that a small number of powerful neo-conservative ideologues in the Pentagon were so determined to prove the existence of a banned weapons program and links to al-Qaeda that they manipulated intelligence.
According to a report written by Seymour Hersh, the veteran New Yorker investigative reporter, the Pentagon’s Office of Special Plans (OSP) relied too heavily on suspect intelligence provided by Iraqi defectors with links to the Iraqi National Congress, an opposition group headed by Ahmad Chalabi, an Iraqi exile.
Mr Hersh reported that intelligence gathered by the OSP drove the war agenda, often in the face of evidence that it was either unreliable or false. The OSP reported to Paul Wolfowitz, the Deputy Defense Secretary and a leading proponent of the war.
One former CIA official told Mr Hersh: “One of the reasons I left was my sense that they (OSP) were using the intelligence from the CIA and other agencies only when it fits their agenda. They were so crazed and so far out and so difficult to reason with . . . as if they were on a mission from God. If it doesn’t fit their theory, they don’t want to accept it.”
Mr Hersh maintained that key intelligence provided by Iraqi defectors with links to the Iraqi National Congress was disputed by the CIA.
For Seymour Hersh's report:
Was the blatant, illegal intimidation of Ambassador Wilson’s wife, an undercover CIA employee, an attempt to muzzle the CIA Director, George Tenet?
The article blowing Valerie Plame Wilson’s cover and allegedly leading to the death of over 70 CIA personnel was published on July 14th.
A secret hearing questioning Tenet about President Bush’s erroneous statement during his State of the Union address about Iraq trying to purchase uranium from Niger took place a few days later.
Information Clearing House) WASHINGTON, D.C
"A Pentagon committee led by Paul Wolfowitz, the Deputy Secretary of Defense, advised President Bush to include a reference in his January State of the Union address about Iraq trying to purchase 500 tons of uranium from Niger to bolster the case for war in Iraq, despite the fact that the CIA warned Wolfowitz’s committee that the information was unreliable, according to a CIA intelligence official and four members of the Senate’s intelligence committee who have been investigating the issue.
The Senators and the CIA official said they could be forced out of government and brought up on criminal charges for leaking the information to this reporter and as a result requested anonymity. The Senators said they plan to question CIA Director George Tenet Wednesday morning in a closed-door hearing to find out whether Wolfowitz and members of a committee he headed misled Bush and if the President knew about the erroneous information prior to his State of the Union address.
Spokespeople for Wolfowitz and Tenet vehemently denied the accusations. Dan Bartlett, the White House communications director, would not return repeated calls for comment.
The revelations by the CIA official and the senators, if true, would prove that Tenet, who last week said he erred by allowing the uranium reference to be included in the State of the Union address, took the blame for an intelligence failure that he was not responsible for. The lawmakers said it could also lead to a widespread probe of prewar intelligence.
At issue is a secret committee set up in 2001 by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld called the Office of Special Plans, which was headed by Wolfowitz, Abrum Shulsky and Douglas Feith, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, to probe allegations links between Iraq and the terrorist organization al-Qaeda and whether the country was stockpiling a cache of weapons of mass destruction. The Special Plans committee disbanded in March after the start of the war in Iraq.
The committee’s job, according to published reports, was to gather intelligence information on the Iraqi threat that the CIA and FBI could not uncover and present it to the White House to build a case for war in Iraq. The committee relied heavily on information provided by Iraqi defector Ahmad Chalabi, who has provided the White House with reams of intelligence on Saddam Hussein’s weapons programs that has been disputed. Chalabi heads the Iraqi National Congress, a group of Iraqi exiles who have pushed for regime change in Iraq.
The Office of Special Plans, according to the CIA official and the senators, routinely provided Bush, Rumsfeld, Vice President Dick Cheney and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice with questionable intelligence information on the Iraqi threat, much of which was included in various speeches by Bush and Cheney and some of which was called into question by the CIA.
In the months leading up to the war in Iraq, Rumsfeld became increasingly frustrated that the CIA could not find any evidence of Iraq’s chemical, biological and nuclear weapons program, evidence that would have helped the White House build a solid case for war in Iraq.”
On August 21st, in a public forum, former Ambassador Wilson named the leaker who blew his wife’s cover; Karl Rove.
“September 03, 2003
“Valerie Plame: Did Karl Rove do it? Joseph Wilson, the former diplomat who blew the whistle on the Bush administration’s claim that Iraq had tried to buy uranium from Niger, publicly fingered White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove as one of two “senior admiistration officials” who revealed that Wilson’s wife, Valerie Plame, is a CIA agent (a case I've mentioned several times). Disclosing the identity of a CIA agent is a federal felony punishable by a fine of up to $50,000 and up to 10 years in prison.
Interestingly, Wilson lodged his specific charge against Rove at a public forum on Iraq intelligence sponsored by Democratic U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee in Shoreline (a suburb that borders Seattle) on Aug. 21, yet no one in the area seems to have reported it.
“At the end of the day,” Wilson said, “it's of keen interest to me to see whether or not we can get Karl Rove frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs. And trust me, when I use that name, I measure my words.”
For a video of the forum:
Yep, Karl Rove FROG-MARCHED OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE!!!
Hold on, there’s MORE!
Is this Intelligence schism only the surface ripples of a much larger battle; a coup of the current administration???
“Now, a much larger group in the U.S. Military has been apparently planning as well, to arrest or otherwise block or seize their current Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush. Among the charges they are prepared to prove against whom some call "Bushfraud":
That as arranged by his father and others, all with prior knowledge of 9-11, Bush went along with high-level treachery, orchestrated within the U.S. government, and with a faction in the Aristocracy, and within the U.S. and British Financial Establishment, and with connivance of big-timers on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, murdering three thousand persons on U.S. soil and falsely blaming the deed on patsies, "The Arabs".
Causing great bloodshed to both Americans and Iraqis, George W. Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq, without a Declaration of War, and falsely contending the Baghdad regime was threatening the U.S. by preparing to use Weapons of Mass Destruction.
As a stooge and scapegoat for a crazed faction within the Aristocracy and the U.S. Bureaucracy, and instigated and promoted by Queen Elizabeth II, jointly in a massive account with the Bush Crime Family and funds of the Saddam Hussein partnership, in the British Monarch's private enterprise, Coutts Bank London; and as supervised by Daddy Bush and on behalf of Daddy, Bush, Jr., set about, for the second time in twelve years, to start up with his father's disgruntled former private business partner Saddam Hussein, the oily, sneaky creation of the Secret Political Police, the American CIA. All for the purpose of stealing Iraq's treasures, such as oil.
Called by some by his middle initial, Dubya aranged to heavily bribe the iraqi military elite in advance of the invasion, and had them and their families safely removed to the U.S., to go along with and assist the treasonous scheme. All the while, a U.S. Military cargo plane whisked Saddam out of Iraq, parking him at a U.S. jurisdiction site.
That because of knowledge of George W. Bush's past and current sordid relationship with his long-time male sex-mate, the Red Chinese Secret Police have been enabled to blackmail out of the Bush White House, U.S. MILITARY, industrial, and financial secrets.
And the oil-soaked, spy-riddled American monopoly press, with full knowledge of all this, have censored the same.
Will this situation proceed as a clandestine matter, or become dramatic, perhaps violent? Stay tuned.”
