Jaysus, as if we didn't have enough to worry about over imports and toxic things in our food. Now, you can eat healthy.. grow your own foods and when you go to grate something for your salad, dump radioactive carrots into the bowl. Worse, the US claims they can do little about it. I sincerely doubt that. It's more like that WON'T do anything about it. A new investigative piece published by the Scripps Howard News Service explores official responses to the discovery of the radioactive cheese grater and finds that there is no government agency in charge of tracking radioactive consumer products. According to the report, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has no authority to force the seller of the cheese grater — World Kitchen — to cooperate with an investigation. The Nuclear Regulatory Agency only regulates nuclear facilities that it licenses, the Department of Homeland Security only tracks radioactive materials at the borders, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is not tracking radioactive consumer products. Common kitchen cheese graters, reclining chairs, women's handbags and tableware manufactured with contaminated metals have been identified, some after having been in circulation for as long as a decade. So have fencing wire and fence posts, shovel blades, elevator buttons, airline parts and steel used in construction. A Scripps Howard News Service investigation has found that -- because of haphazard screening, an absence of oversight and substantial disincentives for businesses to report contamination -- no one knows how many tainted goods are in circulation in the United States. But thousands of consumer goods and millions of pounds of unfinished metal and its byproducts have been found to contain low levels of radiation, and experts think the true amount could be much higher, perhaps by a factor of 10.
