Chapter Eight: The “Truth” about DU and the Ozone Layer
Several BroJon Digest readers persist in believing that DU is dangerous
and causes cancer. Some have even sent me email such as: “If you
want to know the 'Truth' about DU, read the reports by Joyce Riley.” I
have read and studied the works of Joyce Riley for about 10 years, and
I applaud her findings about deaths and disease among veterans. She is
mostly very accurate, but about DU she is wrong. She has been fooled
by the same disinformation program which I call “Mind Control in the
U.S. Space Program.”
Joyce Riley is only one of many thousands of researchers in print and
on the Internet who have “been sold” the same disinformation
program. The purpose of the disinformation program is to fool YOU. The goal
of the disinformation program is to have many thousands of
“experts” all repeating the same lie in print, in the media and on the
Internet, so that YOU will easily and finally accept the big lie. But why?
I have said many times before. Don't tell me the “truth.” Tell me
the “facts” and I will determine my own truth. There are many
“truths” in the world. Which is more true: Catholicism,
Protestantism or Islam? Can a Muslim use “logic” to convince a Buddhist that
Muslim Truth is more valid than Buddhist Truth? No. I have already
written many articles about the new “Scientific Truths,” and the new
science created in the last 50 years which uses the methods of
inductive logic to create a new Religion. That Religious Science is based on
the technique of computer correlations between A and B to show that A
causes B. This false logic is based on using “correlations” or
“links” between A and B to prove a false cause and effect. That is
false logic, and is a logical fallacy. Those correlations are
“truths” and not “facts.”
So what are the facts about the radioactivity of DU and its relation to
the disease called cancer? In the previous Chapter Seven, I told the
story of how 50 years ago, as a kid, I made my own “bedroom” Geiger
Counter. I could hear clicks in my headphones, about one per second.
That was “background” radiation. When I put my
“glow-in-the-dark” radium watch next to my Geiger tube, the clicks went up to about 20
or 50 per second. But my crude home-made radiation counter was not
calibrated, and it had no meter, so I could not actually “measure” the
radiation. But I could tell the difference, or detect the difference,
or the sound of background radiation and the sound of a radioactive
source.
It wasn't until ten years later in my course in Radiological
Monitoring, at the South Milpitas Fire Station, when I actually got my hands on a
“for real” calibrated radiation detector. It was the standard
Civil Defense Victoreen radiation monitor, model CD-V700. The Victoreen
company built many hundreds of thousands of these same “CD yellow”
radiation detector boxes in the 1950's and 60's.
What did I learn in that Radiological Monitoring class? One thing I
learned was that even trained monitors are easily fooled by how they hold
the Geiger probe. The probe is very sensitive to direction. So you
cannot use it for actually “measuring” radiation, but only for
“detecting” radiation and then maybe only after an “average” of many
readings. That was not taught in the class. That was something I
“taught” the class myself, based on my own “bedroom” Geiger counter
experience which I made 10 years before. One thing I did learn in that
class, was that the sound of background, or about 1 click per second,
was the equivalent of about 1 or 2 Milli-Roentgens on the calibrated
meter. That is 0.001 Roentgens or one thousandth of a Roentgen.
Most modern day, radiation detectors have a “background radiation”
filter in the form of Mica shields to make the detector seem to be more
“sensitive” by eliminating those random weak one or two clicks per
second. And then you can increase the amplifier to detect the
“real” radiation. But the manufacturers of modern counters, all warn the
user, DO NOT use the “detector” as a “measuring” device. It is
only a “monitoring” tool. It was not designed for measuring
radiation, only detecting it. There is no way for the user of a modern
device to measure with it, since it depends on how the probe is held, which
direction you hold it, and how close are you to the source of
radiation. You can get a reading on the meter which changes by about one
thousand, just by how you hold and point the probe.
Most of the articles and Internet reports about DU all use the same
false reasoning. They claim that the DU source was “measured” to be
1,000 times background levels. What does that mean, or are they just
lying to you? That would “imply” that DU is “very” radioactive.
But absolutely not so. The instrument those authors were using was a
detecting device, and not a “Measuring” device.
To prove it, notice that none of the articles ever tells you what the
actual meter reading was when they “measured” the DU. They only
report that it was 1,000 times “background.” But what is the
“measured” background level. It is very different depending on which meter
you use, and the time of day, and even your location on earth. There
is NO such thing as THE “background” level. It is simply a human
mental concept of the average low level of random clicks on a certain
detector. But that is always changing.
The largest source of background radiation due to gamma rays, as
measured by a Geiger counter device, is the sun. The sun is a huge
continuous nuclear explosion and produces vast amounts of gamma radiation.
These are very high frequency radio waves which are powerful enough to
“ionize” anything they run into. That means they knock an electron off
or make an ion, when the objects they hit get ionized. This ionizing
radiation consists of the radiation above the visible light spectrum.
These rays are Ultra Violet C, X-rays, Gamma rays, and Cosmic rays,
listed in order of increasing energy. All of them can be detected by a
Geiger Counter, but it is a very crude device for measuring them. A
Geiger Counter only detects those tiny “ions” or electrified particles
made by gamma rays and makes a click sound in the headphones. It does
not “measure” the gamma ray radiation itself.
Did you know that the “background” radiation is dependent on the
time of day? Take a radiation detector and record the readings for 24
hours. The readings peak or reach a maximum reading at Noon, when the
sun is directly overhead. Why is that? The atmosphere of the earth, is
a filter for gamma radiation. The atmosphere “absorbs” almost all
the gamma radiation of the sun. It does it by “ionizing” the air
particles, the same way that the gamma radiation ionizes the air in a
Geiger Counter and makes a click in the headphone.
In the morning and evening, the sunlight and its gamma radiation has to
pass through a much longer distance through the air and most of the
higher frequency energy is absorbed. At noon, when the sun is directly
overhead, the radiation only goes through about 20 miles of air, but at
sunrise and sunset, it goes all the way through about 400 miles of air.
By going through that much air, all the high energy radiation like the
gamma rays, and even the Ultra Violet, and even some of the high-end
light spectrum such as the colors violet, blue and green are absorbed.
That's why sunrise and sunset are marked by the color of the sun and
even the sky being turned to red or orange, because the colors green,
blue, violet and everything above, such as ultra-violet and gamma rays have
been absorbed. They were absorbed by “ionizing” the air.
Want proof? Take a Geiger Counter and travel up in the air in a
commercial airliner. The “background” radiation goes up about four
times. The airliner travels about 6 miles high, but the air gets thinner
with altitude. Above six miles the air is so thin, that the amount of
air above you, is about the same amount as the air below you. In other
words, half of the gamma ray filter called the atmosphere is below you,
so the amount of gamma rays, as measured on the Geiger Counter has
doubled. So which is the “true” background level of radiation?
The amount of “background” that the Geiger counter “measures”
at sea level, is doubled about a mile up at Denver, Colorado? Or it is
four times that level in the airliner at five miles high cruising
level, or 50 times higher when measured in balloons, 20 miles high above the
stratosphere. If you are at the North Pole, during the winter, when
there is no sunlight for six months, the amount of solar gamma radiation
is zero. The “background” radiation at the north pole in winter is
almost zero. So which is the “true” amount of “background”
radiation on earth? Well, it depends on the time of day, your altitude in
the atmosphere and your location on earth. If you don't know that, or
don't know the way the background radiation changes, then you would
believe that false story that “DU is 1,000 times background.” That
measurement is hopelessly meaningless.
Where does that gamma ray absorption occur in the atmosphere? It
mostly occurs at the very top of the atmosphere, where the solar gamma
radiation first meets and ionizes the oxygen in the air and those ions are
called single atomic Oxygen. But the single atom or mono-atomic Oxygen
ion quickly attaches itself to a nearby Di-atomic molecule of Oxygen
and, tada, it's called Ozone. In other words, the Ozone Layer, itself,
is a crude Geiger Counter. The greater amount of gamma radiation from
the sun, the greater is the amount of Ozone in the Ozone layer. Take
away the solar gamma radiation and the Ozone layer goes away. It's that
simple. The annual “thinning” of the Ozone Layer is normal and
natural.
Yes, there is a direct relationship between the myth stories of
Depleted Uranium DU and the depletion of the Ozone Layer. Both false myths
are based on you NOT knowing about gamma radiation and how it is measured
and how it is absorbed by the atmosphere. And it is your groundless
“fear” of gamma radiation and radioactivity, which leads you to many
false “beliefs.” Gamma radiation is the major source of energy on
the surface of the earth. Take away all the gamma radiation and all
life on earth goes away. Radiation is something to know and to study,
not something to fear. Knowledge about radiation is half of the
equation about how the Cosmos works. The other half is about how
“matter,” such as you, planets and the stars, all interact with themselves and
with radiation. Simply fearing all radiation and know nothing it, and
you have no clue about how the world really works, and that means even
in your everyday daily life.
Here's a quick example. Using the old 1950's style Geiger Counter I
found that “background” radiation on the earth's surface is about 1
milli-Roentgen. The specs for the new style digital meter type Geiger
counters with the mica filters produce a background reading of about 1
thousandth of that, or 0.001 milli-Roentgen or 1.0 micro-Roentgens.
Many of the modern digital meters actually read as “1.00” and then a
symbol will appear as it automatically adjusts to tell you which scale
it is on, such as micro-, milli- or actual full Roentgens.
Why don't the authors of all those fake “DU is dangerous” articles
tell you what the meter actually read. They never do. Maybe it read
1.00 on the milli-Roentgen scale. Well, that's 1,000 times the reading
of the “background” radiation on the Micro-Roentgen scale. So the
authors scare you by reporting the DU tank shell found in Iraq was
“1,000 times” background radiation. That sounds scary. But the actual
reading of one milli-Roentgens is a “big woof.” What's a big woof?
It's a pseudo science term meaning “who cares.” If I have a super
sensitive digital thermometer and measure the temperature in my house.
I note that in the last hour the temperature has risen 0.02 degrees.
That's 2 hundreds of a degree. But who cares? I can't feel a change of
2 hundredth of a degree. It's hard for me to feel a difference of one
whole degree. It makes no difference to me whether the temperature is
76.000 or 76.002 – that small a difference is a big woof.
But people who are not familiar with scientific instruments, and very
big and very small numbers are easily fooled by authors reporting
“1,000 times background” which is actually a “big woof.”
Want more proof that what those “dangerous DU” authors are
reporting is actually false and is a “big woof?” Did you know that just
about everybody in modern society, throughout the world, has a
radioactive source installed in their house with about 1,000 times the radiation
that is reported for DU? That's right. In some places the
installation of that source, about 1 million times “background,” depending on
the type of meter you use, is required by law. Has anybody told you
about that radiation source? Has anybody told you that you should live
in “fear” that so much radiation is in your house? Of course not.
But it's a fact. And what is that one million times background source?
It's your smoke detector.
Almost all smoke detectors in the world all use the same patented
design. It is something like a small Geiger counter. There is a tiny tab
of radioactive Americium-241. This is a synthetic man-made element
manufactured from irradiating Plutonium with neutrons to convert the
Plutonium 239 into the next heavier element Americium. It has a half life of
only 432 years. That means it is nearly a million times more
“radioactive” per ounce than either Uranium or Plutonium with half lives
around a 7 or 9 million years. It is safe even if you swallowed the tab
of Americium. It has no affect on the body since it is insoluble, and
it passes right through your body with no interaction. It is not
absorbed. That same fact is true for all Uranium, both the radioactive U-235
and the inert U-238 DU. How can something which is non-soluble and
cannot enter your body be dangerous and cause cancer?
How does Americium detector work? The Americium ionizes the air in the
smoke detector. Two wires with several hundred volts on them, measure
the current due to the ionized air. When the large smoke particles
flow into the chamber they absorb the radiation and are ionized, but they
cannot move as fast as the tiny air ions, so the current from one wire
to the other is suddenly slowed down by the much larger and heavier
smoke particles. When the current suddenly drops, the alarm is set off
– and the smoke is detected with a loud siren sound. Next time you
change the battery in your smoke detector, look for that small plastic box
with the radiation sticker on it. Is the sticker there because the
radiation is dangerous? NO. It's mostly there to scare you and warn you
to keep your damm fingers out of the box. Why?
If you stick you finger inside the detector box, those two electrified
wires will give you a very mild but safe shock. It's about the same as
scuffing your shoes on the carpet on a dry day and then touching
something metal like door knob. You get a tiny shock. It surprises you, but
does not hurt you. But if you stick your finger inside the smoke
detector, and you are not expecting it, that tiny spark may make you fall
off your chair or ladder, which you are using to change the smoke
detector battery. You may even fall off the ladder and hit your head on the
linen closet door knob, or a nearby shelf. After your hospital
treatments of head x-rays and surgery for brain concussion, you might make the
inane claim “I was electrocuted by the smoke detector.” Yeah
right. It's more a case of stupidity and not electrocution. Follow
instructions. When it says on the box, do not put fingers or screwdrivers
inside the box with the “radiation symbol” they mean it. It's not to
prevent radiation damage or electrocution, no, it's to protect you from
a bad case of “the stupids.”
So next time one of those authors declares that he detected the
dangerous radiation from those expended cancer-causing DU bullets or shells in
Iraq, and says “it was 1,000 times background,” you can mentally
add, “which is 1,000 times LESS radioactive than the Americium tab in a
smoke detector.” Which means that the radiation measured for DU is a
“big woof.” Who cares? Just ignore that author as uninformed and
“dangerous” himself. He has just lied to you and is part of the
“Mind Control” business to scare you into believing something which
is absolutely not true.
If the radiation from DU is no more than the radiation from a brick, a
piece of concrete, or a glass of water, how can DU ever cause cancer?
It is physically impossible. Coming in the next report, the complete
proof that radiation has never been shown to be a cause of cancer.
Cancer has long been known and proved to be caused by many hundreds of
chemicals in the environment, but never radiation. That's a false story.
Radiation therapy is used to “cure” cancer. It does not
“cause” cancer. In the meantime, open up your smoke detector, and look for
the radiation symbol. And notice, that you were fooled by a fancy
con-artist about that “cancer-causing DU.” That con-artist is part of
the “Mind Control in the U.S. Space Program.” Since the 1970's,
many professors, people with the title “Dr” with a PhD's, and even
space program “experts” have become “con-artists” And ask
yourself why, what happened in the 1970's...?
