A series of leaks from the first television interview, that is due to be shown this evening on the CBS show 60 Minutes, about a hard-hitting new book "State of Denial " by the Washington Post political journalist Bob Woodward, indicate that the book could ignite a huge row over the conduct of the war in Iraq.
During the interview Woodward, who has so far been sympathetic to the Bush administration's decision to go to war in Iraq, tells Mike Wallace that Bush and his top officials have deliberately covered up the seriousness of the violence in the war-torn country, and the cost of war.
According to him insurgent attacks against coalition troops occur, on average, every 15 minutes, mounting to eight-, nine-hundred attacks per week. He also reveals key intelligence that predicts the insurgency will grow worse next year.
The reporter also claims that Henry Kissinger is among those who are advising Mr. Bush that the victory is the only meaningful Iraq war exit strategy because Kisinger believes that the problem in Vietnam was U.S. lost it's will. Reportedly, President Bush is absolutely certain that he has the U.S. and Iraq on the right course that when Mr. Bush had key Republicans to the White House to discuss Iraq, he told them, "I will not withdraw, even if Laura and Barney are the only ones supporting me."

writes that Woodward's book is also understood to say Tony Blair was angry at discovering that Washington was keeping key intelligence on Iraq from Britain - even classifying reports based partly on contributions from British operatives as off-limits. In some cases, British personnel flying US planes in Iraq were denied access to pilots' manuals, the book reportedly alleges. Downing Street denied to comment last night.
Speaking of Kissinger.

Pope Receives Kissinger

Castel Gandolfo, Italy, Sep. 29 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI received Henry Kissinger, the former U.S. secretary of state, in a private audience at Castel Gandolfo, reported the Vatican.
The Vatican press office did not issue any public statement on what was discussed during Thursday's meeting.
Kissinger, who was Secretary of State from 1973 to 1977, also met with Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi and President Giorgio Napolitano during his weeklong visit to Rome.
The German-born American diplomat served as national security advisor and later secretary of state during the presidency of Richard Nixon, a position he continued to hold during the presidency of Gerald Ford.
In 1973, Kissinger, along with Le Duc Tho of Vietnam, won the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to negotiate the Paris Peace Accords to end the Vietnam War.
So it seems, as Kissinger has changed his mind lately and now acts as errand boy between Vatican and U.S. administration, that situation is rather serious.
Few centuries ago Nostradamus wrote in his quatrain 5-49:
Nul de l'Espagne, mais de l'antique France
Ne sera esleu pour le trembant nacelle
A l'ennemy sera faicte fiance,
Qui dans son regne sera peste cruelle.
which translates to:
Not from Spain, but from Ancient France
one will be elected for the trembling ship,
to the enemy will make a promise,
who in his reign will cause a terrible plague.
