ATTRACTION OF BEIRUT: OUT OF THE BOMB SHELTERS AND INTO THE NIGHT CLUBS
Beirut -- city under siege and cut off from the mainland -- is not really losing its joy of life, despite the bombings, if we are to believe the bloggers and people of whom we read, as they try to carve out a life amidst the chaotic scene. At this point the best escape is by sea, or into a new way of life... Some just turn up the volume of the music in the bars cafés and night clubs to drown out the noise of the bombs.
Well, many Lebanese of the "bourgeoisie" (upper middle class) can indulge their artistic and creative impulses, fueling a vibrant and pulsing cultural scene. But now, with performances, exhibits and festivals canceled, this class is engaging its new reality; expressing themselves on artists blogs (see http://mazenkerblog.blogspot.com/ or beirutupdate and beirutlive); and art house movie theaters shelter some of the 750,000 newly homeless.
However. At some stage, reality will somehow set in. Others, whom I have come to know, have lost hotels and buildings and businesses in this mayhem, and they decided to move to the safe place Montreux...

Like I thought, Lebanon does not really like the "peace" proposal that`s being passed around. Israel seems to like it. Meanwhile the diplomats talk, the soldiers fight, and the population adapts... Go figure...
