As mentioned in my article about today morning's bomb alert in Vienna, American peace activist Cindy Sheehan has been invited by the leader of Austria's Socialist Party, Alfred Gusenbauer to come to Austria during the visit of US President Bush...
Gusenbauer's Socialist Party is currently opposed to the ruling People's Party of Chancellor Schuessel and tries to gain ground as general elections will be held at Austria in Autumn 2006. After the recent debacle connected with the BAWAG-Bank (REFCO Scandal) where the Socialists (connected throught the labour unions, "owning" BAWAG) lost much of their popularity, Gusenbauer tries everything to portray himself as an experienced "leader".
Sheehan arrived at Vienna's airport yesterday afternoon and will participate in various peace activities as forum discussions as well as personally joining a street protest against the visit of Bush in Vienna by tomorrow.
The mother of four again expressed her opinion that two thirds of Americans wanted a troop withdrawal from Iraq and critizised the Congress for not having passed a resolution about a definite time schedule for that withdrawal.
Sheehan called the upcoming protests against the visit of G.W.Bush in Vienna "legitimate" and "pro American" rather than "anti American" and expressed moreover her point of view that it was the US President himself who was "behaving anti American"...
