Actually, while there are no originals, there are copies that have been proven to be the oldest existing copies, which very closely match even today's commonly-printed Bibles. And the "books" that they are copies of are the existing ones we have today...not the Apocrypha or any other books in question.

The King James is close, but even IT is questionable, right down to commas and confusion of Greek nouns: "Truly I tell you today, you will be with me in the Kingdom" or "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in the Kingdom"--Jesus talking to the dying thief next to him. Which is correct? Depends on where you put the comma, but also how you use the rest of the Bible to read it in context.
Also, the mix-up in the use of the greek words "stauros" and "cruxos"--"stake" and "cross." I have a Greek Bible, and "cruxos" doesn't appear, bringing into question whether stakes or crosses were used to "crucify" criminals. Secular history shows stakes, where death would take a few days instead of more than a week, but many religions stubbornly cling to crosses as holy figures.
If you believe that God wouldn't let thousands of years of work be messed with TOO much, then you feel comfortable with the existing books of scriptures, and uncomfortable with "new findings," especially those that are contradictory to the entire assemblage of books of scriptures.
