TRIVIA 024: "BIRD HUNTERS" AND MOVIE "ABSOLUTE POWER"..
In this thriller, an aging cat burglar becomes a crusader embroiled in a deadly cat-and-mouse game involving murder and a government cover-up. Adapted by distinguished scenarist William Goldman from a novel by David Baldacci and featuring a powerful all-star cast, the story works at different levels, not only as a straight-forward thriller but also as an insightful look at the love between the old thief and his estranged daughter, a highly successful prosecuting attorney.
The trouble begins when ex-con Luther Whitney (Clint Eastwood, who also directed) decides to pull off one last heist before retiring. Just as he finishes looting the vault of a well-fortified mansion, a drunken couple enters the adjoining bedroom apparently eager to start making love.
But something goes awry and a violent tussle ensues that abruptly ends when gun-wielding men bust in and shoot down the woman. During the ensuing chaos, Luther slips out.
Only later does the audience learn that the would-be lovers were U.S.-President Alan Richmond (Gene Hackman) and Christy Sullivan (Melora Hardin), the young wife of the President's biggest supporter Walter Sullivan (E.G. Marshall).
As the investigation and cover-up begins, Luther, who has already been contacted by hard-boiled and suspicious detective Seth Frank (Ed Harris) begins to fear that he will be blamed for the killing and prepares to leave the country. He tries to see his daughter Kate (Laura Linney) to make peace with her for having been absent in prison during most of her life, but she rejects him. Luther goes to the airport, but just before he flies, he sees a press conference in which President Richmond, without so much as a twitch, goes on a tirade concerning his stand against violence. Something inside him snaps and he abruptly decides to stay and fight for justice.

Could this be that all was an assassination attempt? On whom? On Cheney or on Mr. Whittington? A "real thriller" that beats fiction by far? See more, from our readers:
....It's an assassination attempt, pure and simple.
Now the question: was it being deliberately bungled, like everything else happening on this administration's watch? But who the hell knows? At this point it's a toss-up between the views of the gullibles and of the cynics.
The Magic BB, anyone?

Seems, there are indeed some hints - regardless that Cheney isn't liked as he is regarded as the "epicenter-in-sight" of the "NeoComns", moreover his former position at Haliburton. If you look at my former post there are also traces towards "fun with funerals". Same assumption, as our next reader writes - but with even more details...
As head of the Texas Funeral Commission Whittington had access to information
on impropriety involving Service Corpotation International and its
subsidiaries. There was accusations from the committee by Ms. Eliza May,
regarding then Governor Bush and Service Corp. ( http://www.salon.com/news/feature/1999/08/20/bush/ )
Service Corp, and its subsidiary Kenyon, have been involved in many disasters
including Iraq, Sumatra, and Hurricane Katrina corpse disposal.

And again Hadashi on the plot above and wheather the "attempt" was on Cheney himself...
According "Absolute Power"? No! I believe I already wrote you on this. Whittington is evidently a man of conscience, firstly, and secondly, he may have direct knowledge (because of his ties to the funeral corp. SRI) of the number of casualties which occurred during Katrina, which were in the neighborhood of 40,000, some have said, and that was the number originally projected, or thereabouts. So it's 10,000.
Who cares. They lied big. Again.
Whittington was balking at the cover-up, so someone gave him a message, right out in the open, so the rest could see. No one can say with any certainty that Cheney shot him. But see, the guy goes to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has a heart attack???
They're going down the road to the bitter end on this. Does Cheney give a f**k? No, because he has orders. What's one little lawyer against the high stakes of the rest of it? People are laughing today but later they won't be....

Thank you - sounds reasonable.
Hello FS3: This entire debacle is so bizzare and non-sensical, I swear it must
be diversion. What earth-shaking event is going on that we do not know about?
The whole issue stinks to high heaven.
Kindly,
Wayne B.
Bizzare? Non-sensical? No - harsh reality. Again, what was Scalia doing with Cheney - and what
has this quail-shoot-out to do with Katrina? B.t.w., hunting quail in Texas requires an "Upland game bird stamp", which costs $7 and Cheney didn't have one. But as Dick seems to have hunted down a lawyer only - did he own a "Upland game lawyers stamp" too?
"Upland game lawyers stamp"?
Personally, I am willing to waive that fee.

LOL, too many "lawyers" on the lawn of the low? ALWAYS 'open season' on lawyers?
