...or was it really "quail"? Or maybe Cheney was indeed thinking he was on the hunt for Quayle. As Dan Quayle is the one and only Vice President to have a museum, The Dan Quayle Center and Museum in Huntington. The museum features information on Quayle and all U.S. Vice Presidents. Perhaps Cheney felt "underrepresented" there?
So much questions for a simple "accident". And this Quayle/quail comparison is really disgusting, I have to confess. But who knows what's going on in the head of such an important person - so I am just guessing.
And I am not very good at guessing.
What the heck - this is only a fun-sport - target, aim - fire...
Hunting quail in Texas requires an "Upland game bird stamp", which costs $7 and I'll bet Cheney didn't have one. But as Dick seems to have hunted down a lawyer only - did he own a "Upland game lawyers stamp" too? Would this be indeed neccessary in that case? I think this will be a further legal question anyhow. The NYT has jumped on that waggon (why not on the "muchos" others?) already: "Texas officials said on Monday night that Mr. Cheney would be issued a warning citation for hunting without a proper game stamp on his license." Again, did they mean the license for birds or that for hunting man?
Do you know "A Most Dangerous Game"?
But, as we know, legal matters were never a question for those kinda people. Do they pay taxes at all?
Perhaps the quail, Whittington had shot shortly before the accident, had a name! Dan, perhaps? Or even worse - Dane! With a cartoon of Muhammed in her bill.
The news 'eports say that after Whittington had gotten off his shot and went looking for his bird, Cheney and some other hunter (again Scalia? - see below - His doughter?) went to another spot where they saw "another covey of quail". Texas quail might be quite some different species of quail, as usually when a gun goes off, every quail around flies away....
And, didn't they all were obliged to wear those nice, orange jackets for hunting? Or is this common in Guantanamo-Bay only?
The whole story simply doesn't make sense.
Where was the Secret Service when someone - even a friend - with a shotgun "sneaks up" behind the vice president?
The accidence was on Saturday evening. The report went public on Sunday. What happened in this timespan? Had Cheney to call for a "cleaner" - someone like Harvey Keitel in Pulp Fiction - to clean up his mess? Was Cheney himself "the cleaner"?
Still this all doesn't make sense...
Let's have a closer look at Harry Whittington.
Ex-Governor George Bush had named him to the Texas Funeral Services Commission. TFSC was the investigating body on the case of Service Corporation International (SCI), headed by Robert Waltrip (another Bush family friend), which had been "recycling graves" and throwing corpses all over into the landscape to use the space to house new customers at cemeteries in Florida. At that time the investigation began, Eliza May was director of the TFSC. Clearly, she got fired with the whole board and Harry Whittington was the one who "inherited" the mess.
Just a thought: What's with the funeral regulatory agency in Louisiana? Where did all those body-bags from Katrina and in Florida dissapear to? Another case for "cleaners"? Are the doors opening for a kinda "Funeralgate"? Isn't the whole Katrina-fraud investigated right now by the Congress? Any connections here towards SCI, the world's largest funeral company? Any more skulls & skeltons in the cupboard anywhere?
"...Gonzales had kept Bush from testifying in this case and was also under scrutiny when a memo surfaced that was sent to his office when he was Bush’s gubernatorial counsel. The memo suggested possible improprieties by two funeral commissioners with ties to SCI and Joeseph Allbaugh, Bush’s former chief of staff in Austin, 2000 presidential campaign manager, who now serves as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The case was suddenly settled in November 2001. The Menorah Gardens case in Florida, involving 72 families, was settled in Oct. 2004..."
And there is that thing with Antonin Scalia who was out on the hunt with Cheney. Same as in 2004...
Two older guys and - perhaps a young woman - go hunting for some days and no one brings back any ducks, quail or lawyers(?) - people start going to talk. According to Sheriff David Naquin, then - "the hunting was terrible. There were very few ducks killed...."
Not only ducks. Me thinks, a few laws were killed as well. But (see above) those laws seem to be different for different people under different circumstances:
From WSWS in 2004
"...Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia had refused to recuse himself from a case currently before the high court in which Cheney was a named party. Judicial ethics strictly prohibit judges from meeting privately with one of the sides to a dispute.
When such a violation occurs, the judge is expected to withdraw from considering the case, a process known as recusal. Despite his clear violation of the rule, Scalia has cynically brushed off questions about his refusal to take himself off the case.
On January 5, Cheney and Scalia slipped away from Washington, D.C., in a private Gulfstream V jet, landing in Morgan City, Louisiana, guests of local oilman Wallace Carline. The next day, they shot ducks on Carline’s private hunting preserve. They flew back to Washington together on January 7...."
