Michael, thank you for this post. It provides a look through a "kaleidoscopic viewer" that can be turned and turned, arranging the same elements into different patterns and perspectives, giving rise to a range of possible interpretations.
Determinist persuasion insists we really have no free will. But I agree that choice is real and the crucial choices can only be available in the now. So often, the first and most important choice is whether we will react to fear, or respond.
- Reaction: determined by prior conditioning.
- Response: determined by volition in the present.
: Even if I have named and described scenarios for a denouement
: of the world of which I am not too happy, I am not saying
: that it must be so. Quite to the contrary, I suggest that
: we should opt for a different outcome and engineer the one
: we want for our own lives. So while unpleasant stuff might
: happen, we can still enjoy our existence, by redesigning

We cannot modify our "relationship with what is" in the thralldom of fear.
And the awareness of fear-persuasion does not preclude volitional response. Apparently the experience of fear is a "gift", a package that presents the opportunity for volition.
We may at times experience great fear in order to discover volition!!!

Very recent features in our *shared* experience (Katrina, 911, 777, 311, et cetera) bear directly on -whether- as well as -how- humanity designs its "relationship with NOW".
To illustrate:
Immediately following the fall of the Berlin Wall there was jubilation, followed by long years of travail.
Immediately following 911, there was anguish. In retrospect, 911 caused awakening in the mass mind, such that long years of travail may have been averted. Had 911 never happened, Americans would have continued to live like sleepwalkers. Looking back, we can see how that one terrible event may very well have precluded much greater terror.

Redisigning our relationship with important events is all but impossible if we allow our focus to shift to the survival chakra. In that frame of mind, an infinitely variable spectrum of possible outcomes is reduced to the dualistic, either/or choice that operates in survival.
: If we become aware of probable outcomes we do not want, we
: open our knowing and consciousness to the possibility of
: creating other actions and thus with it new choices with
: different results. This statement is therefore about the
: sacred freedom of human choice.
Action directed from the survival chakra is reflexive. Choice cannot operate in the survival mind-state.
Certainly, survival is essential. Yet, to a very great extent, we can choose whether or not survival is what we face. Even when the most powerful fear-persuasion is present.
Survival mitigates against volition in the now.
Perhaps the first choice is to restrain the survival reaction in situations where the survival reflex is triggered. That initial choice opens a pathway to a wide spectrum of available options, and to the innovations that cannot arise in survivalism.
Many years ago I was "approached" by a guard dog. Only very briefly before that "approach" began, I had been aware of that dog, but presumed that since the setting was a house under construction, and no one was around, it was tethered on a leash. I became aware of the dog when it became aware of me. I aroused it from sleep. It stood up and started barking.
The size and breed and sound of the bark informed me right away that I might be "in trouble". To my great surprise, the dog sprang off the porch and trotted towards me, growling. There was no tether.
Somehow, under Grace, I did not shift into survival reflex. If I had turned and ran, I would have only a few paces before the dog overcame me. I realized that running would be a mistake.
Watching the dog trotting towards me, growling, I dropped to one knee and extended one hand, palm down, fingers relaxed, offering the dog a smell. The offer was accepted.
It was apparent that the dog had been trained to attack. It was not clean, the way a pet would be. It was grimy. In those two or three seconds of calm, I intuited that the dog had not received love. So I was allowed to stroke the top of the dog's head. After another couple seconds of that, I liesurely stood up and turned around and walked the couple dozen meters to my car and got in.
Evidently, the dog had been trained to respond to fear, and had very little experience and familiarity with love. The dog had no "love conditioning", there was no pre-established reply, and in those brief moments I could see that a "window in time" had opened allowing me to depart.
Motionless and silent, the dog watched, seemingly perplexed as I started up, did a U-turn and drove away.
Choice can operate only in the present. We cannot choose any response to fear-persuasion unless we are experiencing it.
Nowcast: The rampant fear-persuasion in our world is not a bad thing to experience. To step into freedom we must pass over the threshold of fear. Fear-persuasion presents an open door.
