A-ha! On Pentagon pointing: It's not the Lincoln memorial, but the FDR memorial that ray passes through. Yowza!
Pretty Precise bearings were used to figure out where the Pentagon vertices point.
term I used: "ray" (a line with an endpoint on 1 end, an arrow on the other). Here's where all 5 Pentagon vertices point:
Ray #1:
Pentagon vertex start point: N 38.872767, W -77.054786
ray bearing: 28.1 degrees
This ray passes through the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.
On very zoomed out maps, you'd think this ray passes through the Lincoln Memorial, but it doesn't.
Then this ray passes through the Reflecting Pool.
Then this ray passes through the DAR Museum & Constitution Hall.
Then this ray passes through the back end of the middle of the White House.
Then this ray passes through the National City Christian Church at Thomas Circle.
Then this ray passes through LOGAN CIRCLE, dead center of the circle.
Yowza.
They don't tell tourists this tidbit at Logan Circle, do they?
This ray would continue on and on at 28.1 degrees.
Ray #2:
Pentagon vertex start point: N 38.872395, W -77.057991
ray bearing: 312.9 degrees
This ray passes through Arlington National Cemetery.
No specific destination here.
This ray passes through historical Donaldson Park.
This ray passes through Langley, then Langley Forest, etc.
The CIA is kinda sorta north of this ray, near Langley, ya know?
Ooh.
Ray #3:
Pentagon vertex start point: N 38.870765, W -77.053311
ray bearing: 96.8 degrees
This ray cuts the cloverleaf at Rt. 95 in half (exits 10 & 10A).
Passes through the 'burbs and houses and stuff, east of the Pentagon.
not much special that I see so far.
Ray #4:
Pentagon vertex start point: N 38.868879, W -77.055550
ray bearing: 170.0 degrees
This ray ends up at the west end of Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge (rt. 95).
not much special that I see so far.
Ray #5:
Pentagon vertex start point: N 38.870050, W -77.058604
ray bearing: 244.2 degrees
This ray passes through the south end of Mason District Park in Annandale.
This ray passes through exit 54B of the Capital Beltway (exit 95).
not much special that I see so far.
: You are most possibly right with your critics - at least as
: concerning this article from
: http://soulinvitation.com/WASHINGT/dcfrac.htm ...
: Think, it was a bad example for my statements to follow. Thank
: you for correcting me in that. Anyhow, I would like to
: invite you to start a more thorough investigation from the
: first "clues" of my inputs. With your experience
: in this field, I am sure you could contribute much new as
: far as the proper trigonometry is concerned.
: It's indeed an "art" to transform the
: spherical-trigonometry-grid to a usable 2D-projection - but
: I think that it could be negligated if we speak of such
: "small" distances - in relation to the
: measurements of the Earth. Best would be although to work
: in this case with Satellite pics, if available to you...
: I've started now myself to work on a map - related to the
: layout of Washington D.C. - and what you can see at first
: glimpse is that THERE SEEMS to be a "certain"
: relation of the Pentagon-Building to the original grid of
: the Capital of the U.S..
: Not exactly what is stated on the site above, but there might
: be some other relations in fact.
: See, where the Northern corner of the Pentagon(8) does
: "aim" at (red arrow)
: Towards the Lincoln
: There will be more to follow later.
