EQUINOX
Seeing her you thought of sunlight dancing on the water,
catching the underside of leaves.
She meant-well, LIFE, what it offered and what it promised.
~The Last Convertible
It is very hard to misinterpret sincerity.

It is so different now.
It seems like long ago and it’s hard to remember
There was a dark brooding depression
and poisonous savage anger
and the kind of reckless disregard for consequences
that inevitably leads to the darkest things of which
we are capable.
And the day we met was the last day of winter,
season change
EQUINOX
the day when suddenly winter ends
and just as suddenly spring begins.
But I hadn’t thought of spring until
I saw you smile.
And you were Gentleness and Warmth
and Laughter and you had the
quiet strength to smile through the
tears of your own pain.
And the poison and anger and despair
just couldn’t be
where you are.
So I am not what I was
and
the difference is
you.
And whatever happens to me,
when I remember the years of my life
this will be the year when
for me
spring started one day earlier
than it did for everybody else.
Now, a half year later
Equinox comes again
And the world must move from summer
into autumn.
I can’t pretend not to fear
what autumn may bring.
So I will ignore this change
of seasons
and cling to my summer
for as long as I can.
